I've been wanting a tractor ever since I was a little kid playing in the sand box. My wife and I moved to easten Colorado 5 years ago and bought a small place where we could keep our horses. My first tractor purchase was a Craftsman garden tractor. It's a great little machine and I will probably still do most of the mowing with it. I'm not much of a mower. Horses are really good at that. I am looking forward to using the FEL for snow removal (we get some pretty healthy drifts out here). The blade will be good for road maintenance and the harrow does a good job on the arenas. I have been visiting this forum for a while now and wanted to thank everyone for all the good information.

Get a grill guard for your tractor. You will wish you did the first time you hit your grill against something, like the side of a truck, when trying to dump a bucket in the middle of a truck bed. The cost of of the Guard is cheap, compared to having to replace a 1 piece hood.

Which loader did you get on your 3120?

A front guard comes with every loader for free. If you did not get one ask the dealer for it. Do not let him sell it to you. Deere's configuration site will show that it comes with the loader. Just go get it - it is easy to install.

My dealer tried to keep mine and said it was not compatable with the MMM.

Yes it is :)

Before I realized it was not there:

Yup, after I got past the "old home" visions of South Dakota that the photo stirred up --- I noticed the "naked" front grill.

Within the first week of having my tractor; I made a $175 dollar mistake! While picking up my PHD to move it the fellow helping me let the auger bit just slightly brush up against the front grill.

Well, that light mesh won't hold up against heavy steel!

That green grass sure does look fine... though.

Nice tractor. As other TBNers said, a front grill guard is a must with a loader (and it comes with the loader... usually).

Thanks for all the comments. I figured someone would notice the missing guard. It took me a while, but I was curious why it didn't come with one too. I dropped by the dealer and he was surprised, but said it should have one, so he placed an order. Should be here in a couple of weeks. I'll be careful until then. By the way I got the 300X loader. I was planning on getting the 300CX, but they had this on the lot ready to go. It should do anyhing I need to do. I do like that skid steer front blade though. Maybe I will have to upgrade someday.

Not a skid steer blade at all - It is a John Deere 72" Front blade and connects up to the Deere loaders with no adapter.

Here is something else - it is mounted to a 300X loader! - same as yours.

I managed to run the Deere hard oil lines (made and bent for the 300CX) and got them to work on my 300X. Allows me to use my 3rd SCV to control the angling.
