Went to the dealer today to look at an 09 5435. Tractor was in great shape with only 500 hours...but..it has tons of electronics which I'm not used to. I'm presently upgrading from a 1974 165Massey so I'm used to bare bones. I also looked at a new 2650 which has about the same HP but is much smaller in stature and vertually no electronics . The price for the new 2650 is only $4K more than what they want for the 5435. My needs are mainly snow removal so I don't think I need all the bells and whistles that are on the 5435, although that Dyna 4 tranny looked nice.
Anyone familiar with either of these units that could give me some advice or pros and cons? I would like to get a deal done before the end of next month

We have a 5455 which is basically the same as the 5435 except for the engine and tire size, have not had any trouble except for a switch on the A/C. I am still somewhat dubious of the electronics but otherwise the tractor is very heavy built. The 3 pt. lift control takes a little getting used to but is quite easy once you get used to it. Is the tractor you are talking about have a cab or is it an open station. 2WD or 4WD.

It's 4WD with cab. It's a very nice tractor and you're right it's built like a tank.
The 2650 looks small beside it even though they are the same HP. I'm just nervous all those bells and whistles would cause some grief down the road. Of course there's also the warranty that comes with the new one..have to decide soon...over 12" of snow on the mountains here last night

You'll be much happier with the 5435 in the long run. It's heavier, better brakes, better 3pt lift, better cab, radial tires and the power shuttle will be nice for loader work.

The 5400 series is the best series in the MF line in my opinion. There is a computer, but it's a simple electronic system.

Our 5455 is a cab with 4WD like I said if you get it it will take a little time for the 3pt. hitch controls to become natural feeling but once you do it works great. Probably heaviest tractor per horsepower on the market. I think you would like it, difference in the price would probably be about the same in 2 years as the 5435 is not going to depreciate as fast as the 2650 so resale value would probably be higher. Only fault I can find with ours is in tight places it does not have a very tight turning radius.
from what I can remember the 5435 is a 60 P.T.O. horsepower tractor but is probably stronger than a 70 H.P. Deere or a 80 H.P. Kubota as the engine has a lot of low RPM torque. Ours handles a 5300 lb. round baler with a full roll of hay in it on steep land like a play toy.
