new 2305

My new JD 2305 was delivered 5/17 and broke 6 hrs. later. While I was mowing the grass and making a turn, the mid-mount pto shaft hit a pin holding the brake linkage together and things fell apart. The dealer picked it up the next day, replaced the missing pin and returned it 5/23 saying all checked out OK. The next day I started mowing again and guess what. When I made a turn the mid mount pto shaft hit the SAME pin again, brake linkage came apart, hit the ground as I was moving and bent the brake linkage badly. The dealer sent out a repairman who needed to order parts. He explained the problem was that I needed to disengage the pto while making turns because the mower has so much side-to-side movement that the pto shaft hits the pin!!! Either something's missing on the mower or this is poor design pure and simple and has nothing to do with me not disengaging the pto before turning.

Follow up on ordered parts on new 2305. Repairman left my house on 5/24 with broken parts, I called dealer 5/29 but still no parts. New JD just sitting in the driveway looking spiffy.

Whoever did the setup on your tractor screwed up something. My 2305 cuts well and I make tight u-turns all day in both directions. My ground is not very level and I see the deck swinging back/forth and up/down if I go too fast, but still it doesn't hit anything but grass. Also, I've never heard of ANY tractor needing to disengage a PTO just to turn, and I certainly do not!

I'd say your dealer needs to step up the service, because the tractor is solid.

If this happens on flat even ground then there is defenetely a set up problem. But, if the 62C deck runs up on a high spot that is high enough to raise the front of the deck up higher than it can rise with the hydraulic lift then it can get the PTO close enough to hit the brake linkage.

Thank you for replies. The dealer"s service manager called and said the parts and serviceman will arrive tomorrow and apologized forfusely for the screwup. At least I feel better now and feel it will be resolved satisfactorily..

I recall your post from another site. Hopefully the dealer will get you up and running soon. It's a good tractor and their are thousands out their cutting grass day in day out. I'd be frustrated as well, but once everything gets up and going you should be all set.

It's fixed! Owner of dealership got involved so they picked it up, took it back to their shop and reinstalled mmm lift arms with correct parts. When it came back the next day there was almost no lateral play in the mmm as before and it's been mowing with no noises or surprises.
I accepted their apology and am moving on with head held high

You just had a minor setback. I hope you get as much enjoyment as I have with my 2305. With all the rain that we have been getting in TX, my grass has been as high as my knees. It is nice to know that a once over is good enough to get the yard back in shape.
