I just moved up from a JD GX345 to a 2210 and absolutely love it, but I seem to be having a problem with the releasing of the brake lock. Engaging the brake lock works fine, but when trying to disengage it, the only way I can get it to work is by pushing down the release mechanism and then pressing the brake firmly. There's a popping noise when the brake releases. When I try releasing the brake by pushing down on the brake pedal first, it won't release. Has anyone else had this problem? Also, does anyone know if there's something that I can adjust myself or should I schedule for the dealer to come out to take a look at it? Thanks for any help that you can provide.

kc,

Congrats on your purchase. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif As for the brake, it sounds like an adjustment of the linkage is in order. It might be worth a call to your dealer -- he may be able to describe it over the phone -- but then again on a new machine, perhaps you would be more comfortable if they did the adjustment. Let us know how you make out.

Thanks JDFanatic. When my wife arrived home yesterday and saw the tractor in our garage and said "that thing's huge!", I figured I had made the right purchase. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Since it appears that my brake release issue isn't an "undocumented feature," I guess I will call the dealer to see if they have any suggestions or can arrange to come out to check it out.

kc,

At least when your wife arrived home the 2210 fit in the garage! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif My last CUT was a 755; that fit in my garage. I never dreamed the 2210 ROPS would be higher! Well it is! Anyway, a little modification of the shed roof, header, door etc, and everything is fine! But boy did I have egg on my face. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I have noticed on my 2210 I do have to push hard on the brake pedal to release the latch. It does sound like an adjustment. I have attached a picture of the linkage but not sure what you would adjust.

DJLX, thanks for the schematic. After viewing it, you're not the only one who is unsure of what needs adjusting. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif I've called the dealer and am waiting for them to get back to me. When I try releasing the brake, I'm pushing the pedal all of the way down and it just won't release. When I press the release mechanism first and then the brake pedal, it works everytime. At least I have a temporary work-around until the dealer calls back.

JDFANATIC, Fortunately, I built a garage last year and it has the 8' high doors, so the height of the ROPS isn't a problem. Where I park the tractor, I only have around 60" of width between the wall and my wife's car, so that ruled out the 62" deck. It's already a tight fit with a Toyota Sequoia and Honda Civic in there at the same time as the tractor, but fortunately, my wife won't have to park her car outside when the tractor is parked in its spot. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I also have a shed where I used to keep the GX345 prior to the garage being built and there is no way it would have fit in there.

I have the EXACT same problem on mine. I have only owned it since Tuesday so I though I was not fully understanding the way to release the brake.

If the dealer gives you an answer, please post. I'm going to the dealer tomorrow to ask the question too.

<font color="green">"Unlocking Park Brake:

1. Press down completely on brake pedal with foot.

2. Push park brake lock completely down to the unlocked position.

3. Remove foot from brake pedal. Pedal should now be released from the locked position. "

The above comes straight from the 2210 Operator's Manual.

The brake lock does not release automatically when you press down on the brake pedal as it does on some lawn and garden tractors.

kc,

When this is all over, you and I should share a beer; you at how dumb someone could be to make the garage so narrow, me at those who would make one so low!

Mhalla, Sorry, my last description of the problem wasn't very detailed. When I press the brake pedal down and then push in the brake release, I'm able to get it to release about 1 out of every 5 tries. When I push down the brake release first and then the brake, it releases every time. I don't know if this is something that can be adjusted or not, but if so, it would be preferable to have it fixed. Unfortunately, I'm going out of town for a few days next week and probably won't talk to the dealer again until after I get back.

Bheston,
Congrats on your purchase, but I'm sorry to hear that you're having the same issue as me. Have you tried holding down the release and then pushing the brake down? That works much better than doing it the opposite way that is listed in the manual. At least this is what I've found with my 2210. Hopefully, the dealer will be able to adjust the release but if not, it's not a big deal for me since I've found a work-around. Let us know how your trip to the dealer goes and if you discover anything. Unfortunately, I probably won't speak to my dealer until late next week and that will probably just be to setup a time for him to come out to look at my tractor. Good luck.

JDFANATIC, Just think, if your builder and mine compared notes on our garages, they might be able to build the perfect garage. This is my first house that I've had built but boy, did I learn alot about what things to do the next time I build a house and especially, the garage! Who's buying the first round? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Kennyd,
Thanks for the welcome. It's great to know that someone else from this board is located in the same area. I did a lot of research on this tractor before I purchased it and have really enjoyed everyone's input regarding numerous issues, questions, etc. It was also nice to know that I'm not the only one who went through the dilemna of deciding between a 4010 and a 2210. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif My tractor is probably overkill for my needs (mowing and plowing snow for my driveway, my private 1/2 mile road, and my parents driveway all of which are hilly terrain), but I don't care, I love it and it looks great in my garage. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I, like many others, have made mistakes of purchasing something undersized for their future needs but with this beast, I'm not worried about that in the least! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Hey, KennyD and Kerry.
Where'd you guys go to buy your 2210's? Just curious, I got mine down at Gladhill down in Damascus. They were the only ones who had any (or could get me one) at the time.
Kerry, It doesn't sound like the 2210 is overkill. I've got 2.25 Acres and a really long (pipestem lot) drive. I don't think it's overkill, though I had some initial doubts when purchasing. Since then, not a speck of buyers remorse.

Cad,
I have a 4110, not a 2210. I bought mine in Waldorf at Gardiner Outdoor Products. Yes a long ride, But got a good deal from a freind of a friend of a ....whatever /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I deal with Finch's in Westminster for parts and service though. I have yet to make it to Gladhill to check them out...

Hi Cadblaster, I called around to 7 local John Deere dealers and found the best price at Stonehams in Waynesboro, PA. I haven't spoken to the dealer since I arrived home last night, but my brake seems like it may be loosening up some. I can still disengage it every time by pushing in the brake release and holding it down while I depress the brake pedal, but will still ask the dealer if this is something that can be adjusted to make releasing it even easier.

Just wanted to check in.
I bought a 2210 from GOP in Waldorf last month.
Good price, fast delivery.

Q: Did your 4110 receive a pre-delivery inspection?
How did your actual delivery go?

Back to the parking brake issue that Kerry is experiencing - mine is also a little stiff, but has loosened up a bit with use.
Did you get an answer from your dealer yet?

Mark

Hi MDMark, No, I haven't heard from the dealer yet, but the brake release has definitely loosened up some and is not nearly as bad as it was when it was delivered. That's the main reason I haven't placed another call to the dealer. I just mowed with it again on Thursday night and never had a problem releasing the brake the way it states in the manual, which is a big improvement.
