OK, I bought this a few months ago from COLDWATER tractors in Washington. 5k FOR THE TRACTOR A Yanmar 2210BD. Then I bought their loader for $1500 and a new post hole digger that they sell for $550. Ok, so for 7K I have a little tractor. I could not afford the new Kubota club or anything so this is what I have. It says it has 1017 hours on it. Coldwater tractors put in a new battery and new seat. I picked it up yesterday and drove it home to Idaho last night. When I picked it up, they said to change the fluids but that everything looked ok.

That said I am looking for HOW TO links for the OIL- Transmission fluid- hydraulic fluids, ect. I am no great mechanic but I imagine I can do most of it. However I am hoping that there may be some links or maybe even videos on some of these items????

In any case, here is my new to me baby and thanks for any help in advance.

Glad you got yourself a tractor:thumbsup: I'm not sure of the fluid capacity for your tractor, but you should use 15w40 or any other diesel rated oil. Weight will depend on your climate, but I think most of us use 15w40. The hydraulic fluid should meet JD 303 specs or you can use auto trans fluid. the front drive will take 90 wt gear oil, 85w 90 will also work. I have no idea what # your oil filter will be. You probably need to clean the hyd screen when you change the hyd fluid. may also want to change the fuel filter and the coolant. I have no idea if cold water checks or cleans the radiator. you may want to do this as well with a good radiator flush

Sure glad I got mine from "Tractor Ernie" when he was still in the business. Fresh fluids, everything fully checked out and functional and ready to go, plus an operators manual with all the maintenance items spelled out. Coldwater certainly could take a customer service hint from Ernie. If you got a "good one," you will have many years of productive use from that Yanmar.

If you can read the numbers on your filters, you should be able to cross reference them very easily. Check Hoye's website and order the manuals for your machine, they certainly come in handy.

I would STRONGLY recommend changing and flushing the cooling system. Yanmars are known to overheat and ruin the heads due to a poor cooling system. Use the old standard green coolant. Either the premix 50/50 or the concentrated that you can mix with DISTILLED water. NEVER use tap water due to the the metals and salts (along with the chlorine) in the engine cooling system.

Also NEVER use the extended life coolants either.

If you have livestock where the tractor is to be used, ideally PEAK's Sierra PG coolant is the smart choice. PG coolant is pet safe and will not kill the livestock if the tractor hose sprung a leak. PEAK | SIERRA | Antifreeze / Coolants | Auto Products

I've switched to this because of our goats. The other neat thing is, PG is a FDA approved lubricant in food processing equipment. The coolant will actually protect and keep the water pump health in the tractor.

With the cooling system, use an air hose to blow out the fins in the radiator. Keep the air nozzle back some so as to not flake off the radiator black paint. Then check the cooling fan belt. It must be in good shape and tight.

As for oil, JD and Yanmar recommend SAE30 for temps above 32F. (10w30 under 32F) I have that in the Japanese manual and the John Deere manual. Using 15w40 will provide hard starting and longer warm up time. Yanmar does list the 15w40, but it's not on the preferred list, but on the secondary list.

Not related to fluids, but attaching a piece of metal window screen over the front of the radiator will do wonders when it comes to keeping trash out of the radiator fins. Easy to clean in the field with a small brush also. If you start running a little hot, stop and clean it.

There should already be a factory screen in front of the radiator. #30 in this Hoye diagram. Just slide it up and lift it out out to brush it off.

Even with this, cleaning the radiator core with a hose will be needed occasionally to get the fine dust and chaff out of it.

Capacities from YM240 manual. Your 2210 wont be identical but this should give you some idea what to expect.

Note oil quantity - I pour in a 1 gallon jug and this shows about 60% up the dipstick between low and full. If I were running hard in hot weather I would add another quart, but I think this is ok for light use since it doesn't use any oil between oil changes.

Added: I just noticed an old photo I posted for some other purpose. The white wire points to a tiny dimple I made to mark where 4 quarts of oil (w new filter) comes to on the YM240 dipstick.

Hi, have you looked at eBookily.org? It shows there are free downloads for your Yanmar 2210 BD. Didn't click any further to find out if it is really "free".
