Neighbor checked by sheriff every day

I have seen it going on for a while now. No, it is not my business at all, but anybody has an idea what does it mean? Every morning the sheriff's deputy shows up in police cruiser and drives to neighbors house. Never gets out of the car, sometimes sounds a buzzer to get attention. The deputy leaves in 5 minutes or so to show up next morning.

Now, for a foreigner with no clue, does it mean somebody is out on parole and deputy makes sure he is home?

Could be checking on someone for home detention. Maybe they don't have electronic monitoring.

He may be on vacation and asked the sheriff's to do a house check.

Is your neighbor elderly? Their primary care givers might be out of town and the local sheriff may have been asked to check on them.

My Dad recently did something similar with my mom (diabetic and having blood sugar issues) when we went on a trip. The local police would call my mom at different times of the day and ask certain questions. If she didn't answer correctly, they would summon medical help.

They are all home most o the time and there is a bunch of teenage and twenty something kids - I think the detention is the most likely here.

My guess is he is attempting to serve a summons to appear. Each day he rings the bell, and no one answers the door (because they don't want to be handed the summons). After so many tries he will leave it stuck on the door handle and that will satisfy the court.

Since you said it is not your business; go get your mail at the mail box next time sherrif is there and wait till he leaves and ask him.
