Is buying a tractor like buying a car? We're about to strike on our first purchase. Probably going with a Mahindra 1526 4WD... at least, if I were to buy right this second. How negotiable are prices on a tractor? I've been quoted ~$22K for a 1526 with a loader and tiller. Tax included.

call every dealer withen 150 miles of you. When i shopped new tractors my lowest to highest varied by $1850 ish for the same exact tractor.

I agree with Rmart30. Get exactly what you want ironed out including extras like loaded tires or whatever and get as many dealers as you can to quote it. I had 5 quotes and the dealer I wanted to buy from matched my best price. Pick the dealer you want based on other factors such as service department and their overall willingness to work with you. The pricing across the 5 dealers varied almost $2k lowest to highest on a $40k tractor.

Fortunately - I obtained the best deal from the dealership I've been doing business with for the last 37+ years. They are also the closest dealer(32 miles) and have an excellent service department. We are all happy.

Like buying a car, it depends on the tractor, the dealership, and everything else. Some dealerships will give a lower # off the bat which means they probably have less room to negotiate, others will go high. Typically letting them know you are shopping around and checking between brands will get you a pretty decent start at most places... then you have a bit of room to try asking for more. Current incentives/offers, the dealers inventory, sometimes their sales volume, etc. all have an effect.

I shopped three dealers within 1.5 hr radius for my M7060HD12. The closest NC dealer was $4k more than the next closest dealer in VA. I think the closer dealer misjudged me because I had been to the dealership several times looking at Kubotas. I never personally visited the VA dealership, but gave the owner an exact list of options I wanted on my tractor. He won a new customer. I took some of the savings and purchased a CID grapple too.

Think about any attachments you might need (want) along with the tractor. Sometimes the dealer may have more willingness to work on attachments, trailers, filled tires, etc than on the base machine price.

Agree negociate all option or attachments you need with the tractor, check the services! You will probably have you tractor for far longer then a car.
