Negotiate at Lowes,HD?

Im considering a 1000 dollar lowes purchase of one item Ive had coupon in the past and know I could search them out but consideing they still make money even with the discount coupon,I was wondering how many people consider negotiating with them Also the ewmployees get 10 percent everyday ,\Im thinking why not? I feel like i deserve one because of the delays and screw up this year at their stores..:cool2::cool2:

If I'm buying $100.00 or more from HD or Lowes I will always speak to the manager about receving a discount. They will normally give you 10% off without much of a fight, if the order is larger you can often get up to 20%. Sure doesn't hurt to ask and sometimes pays to be politely persistent.

When we built our house ...I bought a lot of major things from Lowes and HD....I would shop on line and find the lowest possible price on a similar item....not always exactly the same brand....and Lowes and HD always matched the price....I have also negotiated a lower price with the manager on big items....more than 10% usually...but its been awhile...Good luck. & remember it never hurts to ask and try.

I don't know about in your state, but here in Texas Lowes will give a Military veteran a 10% discount on any purchase. You will need proof of service. Military picture ID or a copy of your discharge.

I think that is a nationwide thing.

It's not a nationwide policy. Nationwide, veteran status alone qualifies for the discount on three holidays. From In-Store Services.


Lowe's established the 10% Military Discount to support the men and women who are currently serving our country in the Armed Services and to honor Retired Veterans and VA Recipients. This 10% discount is also extended to the immediate family of those who are currently serving, Retired Veterans, or VA Recipients.

To qualify for the Everyday 10% Military Discount, you must:

Be currently serving in, or retired from, a qualifying branch of the Armed Services, or be the immediate family member of someone who is and have a valid military ID Card.

Or:

Be a veteran who receives VA benefits and have a valid Veteran Identification Card (VIC).

We honor all Veterans on three specific holidays: Memorial Day, 4th of July and Veterans Day. During these three holiday weekends, we extend the discount to all veterans who served honorably and who present a valid Form DD214 or other proof of service. I believe Home Depot has a similar policy.

A 10% Lowes discount coupon used to be included in a "Moving" packet that was available at the Post Office, but I haven't seen the packets in the last year or so.

If you use a Lowes CC you get 5% off purchases. We just got one since our old washer finally died. If you go to the guest services counter, they can get you a CC in about five minutes which is good yet scary. They give you a piece of paper with your CC number on it that you can use to make purchases until your CC arrives in the mail.

I am kinda kicking myself for not getting the CC earlier though we have not really been buying much at Lowes lately. We do wait for a 10% off coupon that arrives every few months. Ironically, I used the 10% off coupon the day before the washer died, but we did have another to use when we bought the new washer. The washer was on sale but we got another 5% off with the CC and 10% off with the coupon. Penny saved is a penny earned. :laughing:

If you are spending $100 or more, I would think they would give you a discount. They might have coupons at guest services like other stores do.

about 5 years ago when we redid our kitchen and bought new dishwasher, range, stove, microwave, and refrigerator I asked for 20% off and they gave me 17% off and $40. x 3 for not having to deliver the large items as I picked them up myself when they came in all at once with my trailer
