Does anyone know where I might be able to purchase a used transmission dipstick for my Ford 1710 four wheel drive?
Attached is an image of what I'm dealing with. I've had the tractor for a few short months and I am just getting around to changing the hydraulic/transmission fluid and i realized that the dipstick/fill opening is messed up. If you look at the picture the black area is what is left of a dipstick. There is nothing to grip to remove the cap. The little gray dot in the middle is the metal dipstick. That slides up and down but does not come out, so you really cannot check the fluid properly. I called to separate Ford/NewHolland implement dealers and they quoted me a price of $106 for a new dipstick... must be gold plated. I need to remove the old cap so I spoke to a service guy and it sounds like i can remove the plate where the cap screws in without trouble with the lever to engage the 4WD. That way i can get to the back side of the plate to remove the old cap.
So i'm asking if anyone knows where i might find a used dipsick, or have any other ideas???
Also, if you have removed that plate is that right that i will not have trouble with the 4WD lever? i don't want to create any new problems.
