This may be an old idea to some of you, but it sure solved a need in my shop. Had a friend build up this stand for me, and added HF vice. First time trying to post pics, so wish me luck.
these photo's are stand just back from shop.

This is the vice stand with paint, in position. Not sure this will be the final location, but have to start somewhere.
Has anyone tried this before, and how has it worked for you?

Looks like something good to turn aroudn, take a step and crack your nuts on it!

Looks really good, but I can not imagine what is it needed for. Working on long stock? I have the same vise, but on the work table.

Wow, tough crowd tonight. Looks like you can do some real stock bending if you bolt that thing down.

I think it's a pretty good idea.
It sure gives you lots of clearance to work on your clamped up piece. I've had stuff clamped in a vise and tried to unscrew nuts or bolts or pipes and the wrench hits the table. Also, if you're filing or sawing, you got a clear shot at it.
Nice job and good photos too.

Actually, its pretty handy to have a vise on a stand like that. I made up one several years ago, but I used a car rim filled with concrete. Probably not as stable as this one, but still useful. I keep it by my welding table and use it to hold large or long parts that may not sit on the welding table very well.

I have a friend that has a pipe welded into one of the cylinders of a 4 cylinder engine for his vise. It never moves and doesn't take up much space.

Looks good from here. It is nice to have a portable vice. I have to agree with some of the others though. Watch where you put that thing. Someone's going to be preaching up a storm if they turn around and walk into that thing.

I like it!

I have a setup nearly identical with the exception of the wheels...and this is my third one in several years.
Most everything in my little shop is mobile including drill press, welders, horizontal and vertical saws etc. and for sure a rolling vice is NOT as stable as one firmly anchored to a bench top or floor.

But for all other applications, it's design allows me to use it as a third hand, assisting any bench top, drill press or long (cumbersome and heavy) materials during welding, drilling or calculating angles and measurements. I can also use it outside while I paint small (or large) pieces. Two of the four wheels lock and it's not as easy to tip as one might think. One of the nicer features using this design is that it's never in the way, can be rolled outside to pressure was some nasty items...and then put away in the back room until it's needed again.

Here's a picture or two if you're curious..The second picture is a piece of 14' x 1" x 2" ready to be drilled and tapped.

Nice Job on your vise!

Mark
