The smallest I have seen is a 42 inch King Kutter at tractor supply. However I noticed they don't seem to make it any more. Sorry I am not finding anything smaller.

The smallest I have seen is a 42" model from Land Pride -- the RCR1542 (RCR15 Series Rotary Cutters | Land Pride. That unit weighs 402 pounds and has a recommended minimum of 20 HP. That's probably more than your tractor can handle.

There may be smaller units, but I haven't seen them.

His tractor is 16 engine horse (PTO power not given), and weights 1100 lbs.. He needs about a 3 foot cutter.. I havent seen one. Not saying you couldn't make one, but that is an awfully small tractor to be doing much brush hogging.. It would likely get hung up on a 2 inch sapling.

Have you considered a pull type that is powered with it's own engine? I was thinking that might work better for you.

Thanks for all the help. Looked on the Howse site and they make a 3 ft rotary mower also. Weighs 375lbs. and is rated for 10-20 hp. The bush hog sq142 is 397lbs and also rated for 10 to 25 hp. Any one have any time with howse equipment? any good. I found a slightly used bush hog sq142 for about $700 what do you guys think?

I have had a 4 ft Howse rotary mower for 8 (?) years now. It works fine. I think the quality is similar across all the 'compact' brands.

I use it behind both tractors (see sig, below). The YM186D is sufficient to power it everywhere except going uphill in waist-high wet grass. That requires taking a lesser cut, say 20 inches, instead of a whole 4 ft cut. There's one poster on here running a 5 ft rotary mower behind a YM186D!

If 42 inch is the smallest standard size for a rotary mower, that's what I would buy long as you can get a return guarantee (returned unused) in case the tractor can't lift it. And I don't expect that to be a problem.

Here's an old thread showing my mowing rigs.

I think the greater productivity of a mower as wide as you can lift is worthwhile, even if occasionally you can't take a full width cut with it.

I have a Land Pride RCR1542 on my Kubota BX1500, handles it just fine with no issues.
