Need steering box for 3000

After many years of neglect and sitting outside the steering box on my 3000 is needing replacement. Anyone know where there is a reasonably priced salvage company that may have one? I took the old one apart and most of the insides such as bearing races and everything else is severely pitted and not really worth rebuilding so I am hoping to just find an entire box.

There's a bunch on ebay, but they seem expensive for the rebuilt ones. It's not that hard to reuild them and the parts are cheap I think. You might do better fixing what you have...

bearing races are replaceable, as are the thrust bearings. the sector gears themselges unless rusted completely out should be ok, as well as the ballnut assembly.


it's just a bunch of seals, bushings, a coupl ethrust bearings and races.

I've rebuilt plenty of ford steering boxes... no big deal....

I'll recheck it. I took this apart a while ago and then left it sit. (Military has us moving frequently and I am only on the farm for the summer months) I thought when I had taken it apart that one of the parts was pitted severely and beyond repair. I'll have to double check it. If I can rebuild it I will definitely do so as I really can't afford $500 for a new/rebuilt on right now.

500$ to 650 is about hte price.. so if you don't want to pay that plus ups shipping for a 50-60# box.. then I'd look her over real good.

bearing races can be pulled. mild pitting on the sector gears and ballnut are fine.. it's a low speed operation.. as long as the balls move freely in the ballnut and there is not excessive worm clearance letting the ballnut cock forward.. etc.. you should be ok for a rebuild with 3 bearings, 2 races, 2 bushings, and 2-4 seals depending.... that is.. for a manual box anyway.. PS boxes are more involved..
