I have a 135 diesel that I need to order some parts for and want to make sure I order the correct ones. The numbers below are all on the left side of the engine and I'm putting them in order from top to bottom as they are found on the engine itself:

2313164 - stamped directly into the steel, located directly below the exhaust manifold

37111450 (the first 1 looks like a 1 but the next two 1's have either been knocked down or something - barely recognizable) - directly behind the injector pump and hard to see behind the fuel lines

5 - near the manuf logo (at least I think that's what it is - it has a couple coats of paint over it) is just a "5" all by itself

415 - also near the manuf logo (see above disclaimer) but this number is turned at an angle - probably something like 110 degrees counter-clockwise

GKN1842 - closest to the bottom, near the sump/oil pan, behind the steering arms - seems to be the only one located on some sort of placard (rather than being a part of the casting [raised numbers]) like some of the others

0941076 - this one is not so much located on the "side" of the tractor as it is on the "front" of an area jutting out where the engine bolts onto the rest of the tractor

I'd appreciate any insight. Thanks.

Hi The numbers stamped in should be your engine serial number. On later engines the numbers are stamped by the lift pump on right side of engine. There should be some letters before the numbers. The other numbers are casting numbers. Have you found your problem yet?

The only number stamped in that I found was 2313164 - does that fit the schematic of an engine serial #?

I haven't found the problem yet - I'm not a mechanic (though I and my dad may be doing this rebuild since he is experienced) either though so I'm checking locally around here for a mechanic to look at it and confirm my suspicions.

The engine in your 135 is the 45hp Perkins 3cyl AD3.152, this is the only diesel fitted into the 135.

JJ, I had read somewhere that there were a couple of slightly different overhaul kits for this engine though - something about different gasket types? Maybe I'm thinking of the gas engines..

That is correct, there where some refinements on the AD3.152 over the years and gasket sets do vary slightly, main change was from rope seal to lip seal on the mains, you need engine ser.# when ordering. The # you found stamped below the exhaust manifold is likely the one. Your 135 looks kinda like a UK model to me but i could be wrong, it is certainly an earlier model with the swept back adjustable front axle, you may possibly find a casting date on the front bottom of the oil pan, will look something like
4 12 64. Are there holes in the sides of the hood where the 135 emblems used to be are they on front or back? Have look at the starter and generator, see if they are Lucas or Delco.

The holes in the hood for the emblem are toward the front almost directly above the front axles, and the generator is Lucas. Does that mean it's a UK variant?

Yes, that is as i thought a MF135UK, i have a 1965 model, the one shown in my avatar, you will have to mention that its a UK model when ordering parts as there are some slight differences.

Any drawbacks to having this version over the US/NA one?

No, quite the opposite in fact, the UK version has a few refinements like a heavier rear axle, the battery access door in the hood and a couple of others things that escape me at the moment:)
