I had to split at the transmission, I have the service manual and missed the part about not rotating the shift shafts when removing otherwise the detent balls may get stuck in the set screw holes, well I did and now have locked the 3rd & 6th speed shaft on the right and the 2 range shafts

I have tried to rotate without luck and tried driving with a hammer, no luck...need some assistance or suggestions.

I'm sorry for your dilemma but I have never experienced that problem when I was employed at JD dealership for 21 years. I recommend for you to ask your local JD dealer service manager or branch service manager to contact DTAC.

Have you considered applying lubricant to detent area via drilling a small hole above each ball detent area then attempt rotating shift rail so as to push detent balls further into transmission housing which might free shift rail to be removed? Another thought is heating trans case in area of the spring to help remove spring tension on detent balls.

I dunno anything about your tractor except the pictures you sent. That said it looks to me like you could try one of 3 things. First, just stick a rod down the hole and push the ball out of the set screw hole and back into the shaft, then turn the shaft so the ball stays in place. Second, you could try running a bolt or set screw down the hole to push the ball out of the set screw hole. Third, and something I would only try as a last resort, unscrew the set screw so that it pushes the ball out of the hole. If you have jammed the ball in the set screw hole then a screw or bolt may be the only way to force it out of the set screw hole and back into the shaft. Please remember that hammers are usually not to be recommended when doing this type of work.
