Kubota BX-24D Cub Cadet LT42e
I unhooked the backhoe without any problem, but ran into some issues when hooking up the 3pt and box scraper. First of all, Kubota shorted me two clevis pins so I had to run to the hardware store for replacements. Then, I can't seem to figure out how to hook up my Rankin RBS48 which supposedly has a Cat 1 narrow hitch. Rankin specs. I can't seem to get the 3pt arms wide enough to fit on the Rankin. The guy who delivered everything included a box with various pins, both clevis and cotter type for hooking up the post hole digger, but I'm not sure if he said I needed that for the Rankin scraper as well. Included is a pic of the only way I could get it to work. Any ideas?
Thanks.

Singlecoil,
From looking at the picture it looks like your 3pt arms are spread about a wide as they will go. Comparing it to the arms on my BX1500 they will only go about as wide as yours are in the picture. I think they gave you a box blade designed for a full cat I hitch and not one designed for a sub compact tractor. I can't really tell from the picture, but it looks like the box blade is extremely heavily constructed, much more so than the 4' United Box Blade that I have for my BX and I would say that my box blade is heavily constructed for the size of the BX.

Seems odd but, I have a BX23 not 24. Did you measure the distance between the center of the lower link pins ... where your lower links are to attach? Is it somewhere around 26"?
I have full Cat1 implements. Yes they are wide for the BX but they work fine. There is no law to make any implements to any specific dimensions though. Maybe yours IS too wide. One more question/confirmation: did you disconnect the lower link turnbuckles to try getting it to hook up?

I also have a big Cat 1 BB (Armstrong Ag) and it works fine with the pins pointing inward.

Your 3pt arms look like they are spread WIDE open there.

What does it look like if you put both 3pt lift arms on the inner side of that clevis (like the photo shows on one side, but not the other)?

I realize it doesn't look as strong, but if it fits you're probably OK. That BB looks like it would survive behind a 100hp tractor.

That BB needs a paint job, btw /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

The lower links on the scraper measure about 25 inches. I didn't completely disconnect the lower turnbuckles, but I did loosen the left one quite a bit. I'm a bit baffled by the way these arms function. One swivels on the tractor end, but not the implement end and the other one is set up vice versa. It doesn't seem like the right one will loosen and move further right, whereas the left one is easy to move outward. If you are getting 25 inch implements on your BX23, then I'm definitely doing something wrong. Naturally I was under time pressure when I was hooking the thing up and that never helps. I think I'll just take the whole thing off and start over when I get back home.

Thanks.

I know, the box blade they set me up with kind of had me scratching my head as well. It was delivered with the tractor and aside from the hideous color /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif it does seem a little out of place on my tiny tractor. I'm told that it'll be fine though as long as I'm not driving too quickly on rough terrain.

That scraper looks a bit on the hefty side for a BX, but would probably work as they say. I discovered the BX22 arm span was somewhat smaller than the typical Cat1 span when I was fitting a Cat0 rollover scraper to my BX22. I had to fabricate some eyehole squares out of 3/8 steel then weld them outboard of the existing connectors (see pic). You could do the same thing on one end - weld up another eyehole piece inboard of the existing connectors. That would give you at least a stable liftarm to implement arrangement.

That sure is a hefty lookin blade you have there, as for the arms not spreading wide enough for the pins, the turnbuckles that are attached to the inside of the arms, are made to adjust, and yours looks like they still have a lot of adjustment left, just turn them out longer and the lift arms will spread out and accept Cat 1 implements. The arms pivot on both ends, but on the shiny new tractors like yours, the paint on the ball ends make them really stiff for a while, several of us with the BX's have had to spray with all kinds of penetrating stuff and use a rod to get these balls to loosten up. Check out the Pats Easy Change, I am not affiliated with them in any way, but I do have a set of them and it saves a lot of blue language when trying to change attachments. I know you are going to love that little monster and contrary to a lot of comments here, you don't have to use Cat O, or Sub Cat 1 implements, just appropriate size Cat 1, on your little beast once you get the balls freed up.

I haven't seen the new BX24 in person, but I understand the 3PH is set up a bit differently from older BX's. On mine, I've found the optimum span is about 26" although it WILL go wider (30"-32"). However, when I have my dirt scoop attached which requires the arms to spread beyond 26" the arms come in contact with the 3PH subframe at full lift. Again, I don't know about the 24, but both ends of each arm should have a rotating ball.

In looking at your pic, the right side arm doesn't look like it's fully adjusted out. You may try scooting the BB to left a few inches then cranking the turnbuckle on that right side all the way out as far as it will go. That is if you haven't already tried that /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I just went out and measured the Cyclonerake 3PH adapter thats mounted on my BX23's 3PH and it measures 25.5" tip to tip and I don't have any trouble mounting or dismounting it.

If I read your post right, you're saying that the swivel ball at one end of your 3PH doesn't swivel, correct? If so then all you should need to do is sray it down good with WD40 or PB Blaster then work it loose. All 4 of my swivel balls were very tight when they were brand new.

Good luck
Volfandt
