I have a regular grease gun fitting that is in a recessed locaton and I cannot get a grease gun on it. I looked for a small-head (small diameter) extension like they used to sell but no dice at NAPA. I did buy a small-head extension that you just press on the end of the fitting in a surface-to-surface way but grease goes everywhere.
I could also get by if I could find a regular -straight only---size small grease fitting that is longer than normal and then it would reach beyond the recessed hole it sits in. I didn't search yet in hopes someone here can offer the info. This not a foreign piece of junk but rather high quality American with this one particular oddity.

Does anyone know if a small-diamer lock-on grease gun extension is still available OR does anyone know if a longer than normal standard size SAE thread grease fitting is available?
Thanks in advance.

One thing that may help you is one attachment I put on the end of one of my guns that I find myself using more and more often on regular grease fittings. Try a needle tip adapter. I use these on standard grease fittings all the time. You push the tip onto the ball of the fitting and lube away. There is no leakage all around the fitting like the conventional jaw type ends. Keeps things a lot cleaner.

Will a regular grease gun with a rigid or metal hose work?

Some shown on this site.

No, but we're getting closer. These are typical large style grease gun heads. Years back you could get an adapter, much like the needle adapter in your link that had a head diameter maybe half that of the larger one. I either need to find one of those or a regualar size small straight grease fitting that is longer than normal. Thanks for the effort.

Maybe try the local hardware for for a small pistol type grease gun. :D

Like this one.

I think we have a winner. I do believe the mini-grease gun has a smaller diameter head. I will take a look and since I only have four fittings it will work just fine. Actually, I think I tossed one out a year or so ago, a clear violaton of my never throw anything out credo.

You live in a great area in NS. I used to live in Bangor, ME and spent many a day there. Wife was from Arichat and we almost moved there 40 years ago. Don't care much for the snow however.

Here you had the answerer all along.:D

Just for interest I have ground down one side on a an ordinary grease gun head to get it to fit.

This is what I done. Solves all kinds of leakage problems.

That must be like moving from winter to summer. I spent a little time in Alberta and we had to carry a rock with us to keep from getting blown away. NS has a great small-scale farm environment. I used to like to go over to look at the equipment. I always thought it was a great place to live.
