Can someone please take some photos of an independent lift kit for me. I would like to see:
1) Lift cylinder location and linkage under the tractor
2) Depth setting knob location
3) Any other photos that you think would clarify the installation

Also, how much are these kits? I know there are some problems with the deck sagging after lifting with the cylinder, but I'm kind of interested in the kit. I have searched out both JD forums, but haven't been able to find the information I want. It's for the 62D deck.

I would really appreciate some photos, thanks in advance.

Jim

jmofr,
Here are some pics I attached from .pdf instructions. the kit you want for 62D deck is LVB25605. It sells for around $600. The mower drifting down is not really an issue as long as you get in the habit of turning the height control knob to transport when you are not mowing. The biggest drawback is it uses one of your mid mount couplers, which can be an inconvenience if you have a loader.

I'd be happy to clarify any of the pictures in this post. The lift cylinder is by the left lower draft arm. The depth setting knob (not shown) is in front of the ROPS on the driver's left side (same side as the cylinder).

I haven't found the sagging to be an issue for me (I'm rarely in transport mode long enough to matter), but stealing my FEL hydro ports was something I had to fix. :)

I really appreciate this information. Is this a pdf file that I can download so I can see more? I would like to see the front of the height control and understand how it works. It was a complete surprise to me to see where the thing mounted. I was expecting it to mount somewhere down in front, and below the seat.

How do you adjust the cutting height? Does it take a lot of knob turning to make the deck stay at it's highest position when you are done mowning?

Did you order your tractor with the kit already installed or did you install it yourself?

I've been doing a lot of thinking lately about adding a control valve in the rear like you have and that's part of the reason for my questions about the lift kit and how it mounts and operates. Where do you route the hoses for the deck lift cylinder when you plug into the rear connections?

I route them up underneath the brace between the ROPS pillars and over to the other side of the tractor. This is actually the same path the dealer routed the kit initially to get to the FEL QCs.

I think it's only 2-3 turns of the knob to go from min to max height, not horrible and you can probably adjust that by making the take-up spool larger. Of course, you can only turn the knob when the mower is lifted to transport height (unless maybe you're green and I wouldn't like you when you're angry). Essentially the knob winds up a spool of braided steel that prevents one of the joints in the mounting frame from bending beyond a certain angle. It's not very clear but the fourth picture in the MMM to Backhoe post shows a rod that leads to the height control knob.

Great post. I just came home with a jd 2305. I now wish I would have ordered the optional mid mower lift, and the electric cruise. Are these options something that I could purchase from the dealer and install myself.

thanks in advance, David- south Louisiana

dp2305, yes you can install them yourself if you're mechanically inclined. The kits come with pretty good instructions.
