Sprayer Need parts to re-build a 3pt. Sprayer

Good afternoon guys,

I have inherited a 30 gal. 3pt spay unit. Right now what I have is the 30 gal. tank (plastic), a 20 ft. hose and spray wand and the frame to mount on the 3pt. hitch. The previous owner tells me I need to replace the pump, and if I want, add a boom with nozzles. He was using it to spray a small orchard about 5 years ago and only used the spray wand. I guess after sitting all those years the pump has also stopped working. I have two questions:

1. Would I be better off buying a new unit, either 3pt or pull behind, for what the repairs will cost me? I'm afraid of buying the pump, pto shaft (I assume) and spray boom to rebuild an old unit if I could spend the same or a little more and buy a completely new unit.

2. If it's reasonable to repair and upgrade this unit, where is the best place (places) to look for the part I need?

I don't have a lot of answers -- but a lot of the same questions. I "inherited" an old Canaan 3pt rig when we bought the property. Pump was frozen, all the hoses were dry and cracking, frame needs cleanup and painting, and the tank is missing one fitting. Decided to give rebuild a try before spending the money on a new rig.

Thus far, I have the pump un-frozen, but still trying to get one set screw out of the PTO connector to get the pump apart and see what the guts look like. Figure I can spend a fair amount of time before I equal the $100 for a new pump.

As for parts sources, I've just started looking. Tractor Supply has some things (nozzles, clamps, hose, and pumps) as does Northern Tool (only found pumps thus far). Figure I'll search the net as well. Only real concern is that I'll get everything EXCEPT the fitting for the tank.

PS Prices are amazing -- pump $100. cheapest wand $20. 30-gal tank $90. torque bar $20. ... On the other hand a 55-gal sprayer with 10' boom runs $465 and the wand is extra ....

If that is a roller pump, you can get a rebuild kit for around 20 bucks.
There is not shaft required for roller pumps, only a coupler and troque bar. Tractor Supply or any good ag supply store has the parts needed. Those little parts do add up and you might want to compare, but if a new cost $465 then you still need to buy the roller pump, coupler, torque bar; that kit is around $140 from TSC.

Actually, the unit I would buy instead of repairing this tank is a 30 gal tow-behind that TSC sells for about $285. I only have about 7 acres in pasture and about 1 1/2 in yard so a pull behind would work with the Kubota and the lawn tractor. I've attached a photo.

I've also looked at TSC and Northern for parts. I have yet to see a boom that I could incorporate into my unit, but the parts I have found sure aren't cheap!

As with so many other things, I was hoping one of the veterans would come up with a site like Sprayers-are-Us or some such that sold exactly what I'm looking for. For me the trade-off mark will be $200.00. If I start getting close to that in parts and my labor, I think I'll be better served by buying the new unit.

Then this gear will go staight into the Georgia market bulletin or Ebay!
