Need Landscape Rake Advice

I need to purchase a landscape rake for my JD4105 (40HP) for use raking-up debris and gravel road maintenance.

There are four offered by my dealer -- Frontier Models LR1072 & LR2072 (Standard Duty, 72 inches) vs Models LR1172 & LR2172 (Medium Duty, 72 inches).

Farm and Fleet has KingKutters YR-72, TYR-72 (Tubular), and YR-G-72 (Professional).

Should I get a heavy-duty rake -- or is that overkill using a 40 hp tractor?

These are my choices so far -- what else should I consider?

I use a leinback 84in rake on my Bobcat CT235 (35hp) and also used on a 4120 Deere so I would a get a 84in if I were you. It handles it well

I think mine is the KK YR-G-72 professional and its on a Kioti DK35SE HST. It works nicely with no problems. I put in a 3 acre lawn last year for my neighbors with nice results. Go as big as you can afford, they are not hard to pull behind your tractor. I got a 72" because of the stupid price that was on it, i couldn't pass it up.
If you get one ide advise the wheel kit, it makes the work a lot easier. I don't have wheels on mine but im thinking about putting some on it. . . . John

Woods makes a great H.D. rake. I have a York brand and it is great, but pricey. Whatever brand you get, a wheel kit is a must have item.

Get as heavy duty of one as you can afford. I too would get a 7 footer for your size of tractor.

I have a six foot woods for my B2710 and it handles it easily. I would follow the others and go with the 84 unless you are maneuvering amongst a lot of trees

I wouldn't go real cheap, but typically a landscape rake doesn't get into really heavy duty work. If it hits the proverbial "immoveable object" the spring tines just let it go. It's not like a box blade where it becomes a contest.

I bought a used Woods many years ago. It doesn't get a whole lot of use because it does the job quickly and then I'm done.

Definitely want the wheels with it!:thumbsup:

Don't know your specific wheel/tire setup, but tractor data puts the width at nearly 66". Definitely go for the 84 incher. If/when you fully index a 72 incher, it will no longer cover your rear track.
