I need to move a 250 gallon propane tank from my ranch to my mothers house 3 hours away. My tank is on a concret skid and not hooked to any thing. It shows a 30% level on the gauge. My request is I need a few questions answered and haven't found any answers yet.

1. Is it possible for a propane company to come out and reclaim the propane?
2. Would be be a bad idea to transport the tank with the 30% level in it?
3. Any idea what the capiacity of my Kubota L2800 FEL is?
4. I guess that the tank weighs about 900-950 lbs.

Any suggestions?

Throw a few chains on it and lift it on the trailer chain and strap it down and go ,also make sure your insurance is up to date !

Thats what I did --but I didn't move it 3 hours away either....just chained it down to the trailer and took it. Not sure about the legalities.

It most likely will need DOT Placards among other regulations for over the road movement AND there are hefty fines for not doing it legally!!

Throw a tarp over it and drive normal ,but if you have an accident make sure it's your mother in laws truck !

Yes, hire a propane company to move it for you. If you will be driving on any federal highways and get caught transporting a tank with 30% LPG, you will be in deep trouble.

As for checking the status of your insurance, don't bother. There is likely an exclusion in the policy that covers this situation.

I had a 500 gal tank moved 30 miles across state lines. I hired a contractor that charged $50, he had a hazmat endorcement, and placards. There was 70% in this tank.

If it is empty, and puged, the dot said, I could hall it. Most propane suppliers can empty your tank.

Dot law states that you don't need hazmat or placards for less than 999 pounds, your right under that, I believe.

Good advice. You need a special endorsement on your commercial drivers license to haul propane. Also, there are no anti-slosh baffles in a propane tank. Slam on the brakes and things will get really interesting. Talk to your local propane dealer about emptying the tank. They might like it if you could use your tractor to roll it over for them so the valve was on the bottom.

Do you think the Kubota can lift 900 pounds?
