So, Just ordered the really nice StabilWorks Stabilizer Bars from Mark. Can't wait to get them. My problem is, the square piece (sorry idk what it's called) that the chains hook to is stuck in place. There's no movement up or down. It's been like this since I bought the tractor, and we've tried, from time to time, to knock it free, spray it free, everything. We just can't get it to move. And I'm pretty sure now that we're replacing chains with the bars, movement is going to be needed so we don't twist or bend the bars. Any ideas? Help needed.

Hook it up, as you are using it the constant load - unload will eventually free it up.
I do hope you are NOT referring to WD40 when you said 'spray it loose'...

Kenny I don't think he will be able to hook it up as the angles will need to align for the stabilworks telescoping stabilizers..

I would suggest soaking in Kroil or the "magic sauce" of the Automatic transmission fluid mixed with acetone.

Apply several times and get a stick of wood and a hammer and knock the pi** out of it. You are going to have to free up this piece to make them work.

I have to ask this.. none of my business, but what the heck is going on with all the rust back there? PTO shaft looks like ... well.. rust.. salt?

I'd remove your clevis hooks and use a torch to heat the part that is supposed to move. Tap with a big hammer or put a large pry bar under it to work it up and down. The heat should expand the metal slightly to free it from the pin that goes through it. Then add plenty of PB Blaster or Kroil to penetrate the rust.

No, i didn't use WD40, I tried PB Blaster. I have a can of Kroil sitting on the desk right now, I'll try that. I've used a torch, that didn't work. As for the rust, idk, dad doesn't use the rear PTO. I don't know why it would be rusting like that, it's stays in the shed all locked up when not in use. I'll try all of these that I haven't already tried, or just try everything all over again. I know I have to get it free for him before we hook up these bars. Thanks everyone, great advice as always!

You didn't ask, but I am going to offer some free unsolicited advice about the rust.
I would pressure wash the back end to knock off scale, then wire brush a bit, the either brush on or spray on some rust reformer. you can get it at home depot
Then after the rust reformer has had time to work, I would paint. The PTO shaft I would just brush and lube it up.

Rust-Oleum Automotive 10.25 oz. Rust Reformer Spray Paint (6-Pack)-248658 at The Home Depot

6 pack is shown on website, but it is less than $6 per can and it is in stores. Good stuff.

Take the chains off. Use the rust penetrator. Give it some good smacks from each side. ( 10# sledge or so )
Smack it on the top. Use a long pry bar on the bottom. If you have air and a hammer chisel with a blunt end give it a work over while pressure from the bar is on it. Heat as has been mentioned. Maybe a few choice words, a couple of beers, harder smacks and then do it all over again.

Hydraulic wedge may may also work.

all advice you have previously gotten.

Patience is a virtue.

DSCN1414.jpgWell guys, still work on it. I have the PB Blaster and Kroil Oil. Almost used the whole can of PB.... Oh, I've got the torch and sledge hammer out too. Dad said he doesn't want me beating on the end too much cuz it'll mar it up so it won't fit through the hole. I'm over here thinking, "****, if we can't get anything to move, it's never going through the **** hole." I would really love to know where it was kept before dad bought it. The paint looks too good to have been left outside. But this back end is full of rust. Can't give up, the new stabilworks bars have to work. Thanks again guys for all your advice. Oh and Egon, I don't drink, but I may after this lol.

DSCN1416.jpgOh, the only thing that isn't stuck is the draw bar hitch.

You might also try a bolt and nuts through the chain holes as a spreader. ??? Keep lots of force one while heating and hammering.

A glass of water works well to rest up the swinging arm.
