Tractor
Not Sure
Hey folks. Just bought a 20 acre property. 6 of those acres is where a house and well manicured grass are - which we have under control with a 72" zero turn mower.

The back 14 acres (where the tractor will be primarily used) is mostly open fields - with two very tall trees in the middle) that for the next few months will need to be bush hogged weekly, and box bladed a bit to level things out.

Eventually we'll be putting animals on probably 10 of those acres, and turn the other 4 into nicely manicured fields for dog sport events (think soccer fields) - which we'll handle with the zero turn. Will also be putting in a fair amount of cross fencing for the animals, and eventually the entire perimeter fencing will need replacing in the next 5 years. Also plan on putting up some out buildings. Maintaining some long dirt/gravel drives is also in the books. And dealing with the occasional downed tree.

Right now we're looking closely at two tractors:

Mahindra 2555 Shift Shuttle Cab (55HP) - has about 40 hours but has never been sold, so we'll get the full manufacturers warranty - $33k

Kioti DK5310SEHC HST Cab (50HP) - brand new - $31k

The initial impression is that the Mahindra has a slightly nicer seat, and the Kioti drives slightly nicer. But in all honesty they seem to be a toss up.

We liked the folks we dealt with at both dealers, but the Mahindra dealer is more corporate, and the Kioti is more family-owned. Both are 15 minutes away. We have a few friends that are real tied into the farming community (they are vets and vet techs) and they hear great things about the Kioti dealer. The feedback they gave us about Mahindra wasn't directly to do with the dealer, just that they had at least 2 customers who had Mahindra tractors down for 4-6 weeks waiting on parts.

The Kioti dealer also sells LS, but says that in the next year he is all-in on Kioti.

There is a Kubota dealer about 35 minutes away, so I called to get a quote. I told him the 2 tractors we were looking at and he quoted me on a M6060 at around $48k.

The implements we are looking at seem to be more or less priced the same by everyone we've talked to. The package the Kioti dealer put together are all Titan Implements except for the bush hog which is a Bush Hog brand.

  • Front Mount Auger - $2800
  • Grapple Kit - $1200
  • Bush Hog with slip - $2000
  • Rake - $675
  • Box Blade - $700
  • Pallet Forks - $800

My gut tells me to go with the Kioti. What do you folks think? Are those fair prices?

Welcome to TBN.

Based on your post, I'd agree with the Kioti.

I'm not familiar with the Kioti or Mahindra models you are looking. There's often subtle differences in models that affect the price. These often are overlooked until after the purchase. Some buyers consider these things unnecessary frills. Some consider them necessities.

The dealership is an important factor and if you are more comfortable with the Kioti dealer and all factors on the tractors are basically the same, then go with the Kioti.

Those new Kioti DK10SE HC tractors are the bomb. I’d go with the Kioti!

I went with a dealer that made me feel comfortable and appreciated, was not even thinking of buying the brand I ended up with. Sounds like the Kioti is the way to go.

It sounds like the size is decided so brand is the only question. Given the brief intro I'd go with Kioti.

It sounds like the size is decided so brand is the only question. Given the brief intro I'd go with Kioti.

So far the advice I've been given is to err on oversizing rather than undersizing. Thats what had us jump up from looking at 40HP class tractors into 50-55HP. But I am totally open to advice on sizing if you think we're missing the mark.

I have a 2016 DK5010 Hydraulic Shuttle and I am very happy with it. I was shopping for a 35Hp and ended up with a great used 50Hp. The extra weight and wider stance makes for a more stable tractor for a newbie like me.
In 2018, Kioti introduced the upscale DK you have priced out with extra SE features, hydrostatic transmission and cab option. If you can afford it, go for the Kioti.
I deal with a small family owned Kioti dealer and they have been great, answering all my questions, even though I bought a used, private sale, machine. I have at least purchased some attachments from them to become a customer.

Good luck.

I personally would go with the Kioti and I'm a Mahindra guy and have had very good luck with the 2 that I have. But they are 12-13 year old models and things are different now. I am relatively certain that you would be happy with either and the Kubota quoted is a different frame size and not comparing apples-apples.

The reason I am even posting is some of the implements seem way way to CHEAP. As in I would not consider them for any tractor over 2500lbs.

Front Mount Auger - $2800 How many augers and what size and type?

Grapple Kit - $1200 Confirming this is the loader 3rd function kit?

Bush Hog with slip - $2000

Rake - $675 IMO, this should be in the $1000-$1500 range for an 8" rake that is built to be behind a tractor of the size you are considering.

Box Blade - $700 A good quality box blade is going to be at least $1500-$2000. Something either 72",78" or 84" in width.

Pallet Forks - $800 Seems high priced to me, should be more like $600. Depends on what you would actually be getting though.

Just my :2cents:

Good luck with your research and final decision. ;)
