Hey folks. Just bought a 20 acre property. 6 of those acres is where a house and well manicured grass are - which we have under control with a 72" zero turn mower.
The back 14 acres (where the tractor will be primarily used) is mostly open fields - with two very tall trees in the middle) that for the next few months will need to be bush hogged weekly, and box bladed a bit to level things out.
Eventually we'll be putting animals on probably 10 of those acres, and turn the other 4 into nicely manicured fields for dog sport events (think soccer fields) - which we'll handle with the zero turn. Will also be putting in a fair amount of cross fencing for the animals, and eventually the entire perimeter fencing will need replacing in the next 5 years. Also plan on putting up some out buildings. Maintaining some long dirt/gravel drives is also in the books. And dealing with the occasional downed tree.
Right now we're looking closely at two tractors:
Mahindra 2555 Shift Shuttle Cab (55HP) - has about 40 hours but has never been sold, so we'll get the full manufacturers warranty - $33k
Kioti DK5310SEHC HST Cab (50HP) - brand new - $31k
The initial impression is that the Mahindra has a slightly nicer seat, and the Kioti drives slightly nicer. But in all honesty they seem to be a toss up.
We liked the folks we dealt with at both dealers, but the Mahindra dealer is more corporate, and the Kioti is more family-owned. Both are 15 minutes away. We have a few friends that are real tied into the farming community (they are vets and vet techs) and they hear great things about the Kioti dealer. The feedback they gave us about Mahindra wasn't directly to do with the dealer, just that they had at least 2 customers who had Mahindra tractors down for 4-6 weeks waiting on parts.
The Kioti dealer also sells LS, but says that in the next year he is all-in on Kioti.
There is a Kubota dealer about 35 minutes away, so I called to get a quote. I told him the 2 tractors we were looking at and he quoted me on a M6060 at around $48k.
The implements we are looking at seem to be more or less priced the same by everyone we've talked to. The package the Kioti dealer put together are all Titan Implements except for the bush hog which is a Bush Hog brand.
My gut tells me to go with the Kioti. What do you folks think? Are those fair prices?
