need help on changing 6000 starter solenoid

got my solenoid in for my 6000 in today hooked it up the same way and when battery cable is hooked up starter spins and will not stop but is not engaged with flywheel. the little piece of metal from the big post to the little post was on different from the other solenoid so i changed it but to no avail. how does the plunger go inside could not figure that one out either. any help greatly appreciated

Turbinesurgun, I have had the starter solonoids apart on them, but I just cant picture in my mind what would be wrong with it. If I were you, I would return the solonoid and exchange it for another one.

thanks. i took it off and took it to dealer. starter had burnt smell so i get a new starter. is this normal does it happen very often? only has 105 hours on tractor.
