Need Help On 316 Over revs

Hi Everyone im a new member and really need your help i have a onan b43e 318 john deere, i had the motor taken down and had the machine shop deglaze cylinders and recut valves i put new rings back in and got it all to gether and started it up and if i move the throttle just and 1/8 of an inch it over revs real high i have tried to put the springs in the holes at different spots but no luck im almost positive i put the pin in the hole on the governor like the book said cause the test matched what the book said to do can any one tell me which holes the spring and throttle hook into i have had this apart before and didnt have this problem either

I had the same problem when I recently overhauled my p218 onan. The shop had left out the ball bearing at the bottom of the governor shaft. The service manual has a note to remind rebuilders to check and make sure it does not fall out and get lost. I had to take the governor cover off and replace the ball. I had the exact problem you describe. Hope this helps

Another "mistake" that will give you the same over revving symptom ( I know,'cause I did it:ashamed is if you install the yoke backwards on the governor shaft. Item #1

thanks everone but i went and tore it back down and low and behold the ball bearing was missing in the gov shaft so i had to go to ace and get one so hopefully this will end my problem also can any one tell me which holes the sring goes into on the throttle tp governer
