Wondering if anyone would know the manufacturer and model number of this tractor I just bought at auction. It has a 16hp horizontal shaft cast iron Briggs and stratton in it. Any help would be appreciated.

It look like a Canadian MTD except for the horizontal shaft engine. Open the hood and take some pictures.

The pto engaging lever on the right side of the dash, the seat adjustment by using various slots for the springs to fit into.

I would think the rear axle is cast iron.

The ID label was under the rear seat.

Boy this looks older than my experience and I am 70.

I suggest you join this forum which just deals with Garden tractors and the like.

Someone there may recognize it and be more help.

I can see there are two drive belts side by side coming from the engine. Probably one to propel it and the other for the mower.

Good luck and it you do find out plse post back here so we will all learn.

I am guessing it is a Bolens or a Sears Craftsman (rebadged Bolens). Will keep on researching......now I want to know, too.

The good news is that it is very generic. Briggs parts are everywhere as are pulleys. Your local lawn mower shop should have just about anything you need for it. It would be nice to know what it is though.

You might want to post the engine ID numbers (model, family group, etc...) which can then be used to narrow down the year of manufacture.

It looks a lot like the Roper built Sears 70-74 year model machines. Roper built and would re badge for lots of folks back in the day

I have a 1972 Sears 15HP, built by Roper, that my dad bought new in 1972.
It has mowed many hundreds of acres, and is still going strong (45th year).
NOTHING about this mower looks ANYTHING like my 1972 Briggs 15HP Sears/Roper!
