2012 John Deere 1016, FEL, 60"MMM
I would like to get an Aluminum trailer for my John Deere 1026, I would prolly be hauling it without my loader or rear attachments. I would prefer a tandem axle trailer with brakes as I will be pulling it with my 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport. Should I get the 10 foot or 12 foot trailer? It will fit on a 10 foot but no extra room at all. Any advice? The reason I want an aluminum trailer they are lighter weight making it easier for my Jeep Cherokee.

Or would it be ok to go with a 12 foot single axle utility trailer with brakes?

First off taking the tractor without the loader or rear attachment is like going fishing with only the pole and leaving the tackle box and cooler full of beer at home.

Secondly. A aluminum trailer will weigh about 900# and you can get a 16' steel tandem axle car hauler that weighs only 1250#. I have one. The weight saving is negligible. Aluminum trailers are also twice the price, I know because I have one.

Your Jeep should be rated at 5000# towing if I remember correctly so start doing the math and see if you can get your load down to 3750# and you will be all set.

What you don't want to do is get a single axle trailer that's short and balanced wrong. That's far more dangerous then being a few pounds over weight.

You need length with a trailer to get the load properly balanced. You want 10% to 15% on the tongue.

Diamondpilot knows. Only lawn tractors belong on single axle trailers. I need most of my 16 ft. trailer to get my 2320 in the right spot with some attachments.

We transport a 1025r FILB on an 18' aluminum car hauler (we also have a 3038e) with an f150 with factory tow package. I would not want to try it on one less than 16' and still get tongue weight / balance right without weight distribution hitch ...

and brakes on two axles is a good thing!

I hauled a Kubota BX with a loader on a 12' single axle trailer (aluminum). It worked well, except hauling it with an implement attached was out, and I had to back the tractor on to get close to weight balance.

Like others, I recommend a 16' trailer, whether you go aluminum or steel. I have a 18' aluminum tandem trailer, and it makes hauling my current tractor very easy-no matter what attachment I have on, a foot or two back or forth lets me balance the load nicely.

I started with 2007 4x4 Ranger and a Carry-On 16ft dual axle landscape trailer with an empty weight of 1600 .lbs for my Sc2400. Similar in size to your 1026. I think you're jeep would have no problem towing.

When I brought down the T2320 from our farm we're selling in ND, I needed a new tow vehicle from the 2010 F-150 I replaced the ranger with and trailer to tow that tractor. So I upgraded to a 2013 F150 4x4 with Max Tow and a Kaufman 22ft fixed tilt deck

I would get a trailer that you can haul your loader and an attachment on. Like Diamondpilot said,

There will be many times that you will have wished you had them with you.

Actually, I have a Doolittle 16' tandem axle trailer with brakes on both axles now but I pull it with a Chevy 4x4 that will pass anything but a gas station! I was thinking about selling it and thought I should get a lighter weight trailer for my old straight six in my Jeep.

Keep what you have. For once or twice a month that most people use a trailer it's not worth the expense of a $2000 trailer. You can buy lots of gas.

And for what it's worth the only V6 vehicles I have pulled with got horrible mileage when doing so. 89 S-10 4.3 V6 and a 2001 Dakota with a V6. Both got about 6 mpg with a 3500# load behind them at highway speed.
