I had a great picture viewing program that I inadvertently deleted somehow while doing PC maintenance, Now it's just defaulted to windows picture and fax viewer.

I don't even know the name of what I had but it was more advanced than the generic windows program. It had a tool bar on the top with a quick fix option near the top right, was very easy to edit/crop/re size pics.
I know I didn't buy it so it must have been a free down load or possible came with digital camera software.

Any help or suggestions appreciated.

JB.

Most decent digital cameras come with something these days, Canon has their Zoombrowser which works well. You can probably download it from the Canon site, or find someone with the discs.

IRfanview is a freebie that also works well.

Maybe you didn't actually delete the program, it's possible you just changed which program opens it.

Right click any JPEG file and goto "open with".

Sounds like the "Microsoft Office Picture Manager" look in Start>All Programs>Microsoft Office>Microsoft Office Tools. or to open a file with it, do as has been suggested and right click on the file and go to the "open with" menu

Yup that was it, don't know why I never noticed the name at the top in such large bold letters, guess I just took it for granted.

I did have to remove and reinstall the whole 2003 office program recently, I have the pro version, there's a ton of stuff in there I don't even know how to use.

I don't use the shortcut route in the picture manager program, I just set preferences to use this program to open same type files and find them in my windows folders. have them set to thumbs so it's easy to find what I'm looking for.

Thanks everyone.

For just viewing pics I usually use Windows Picture and fax viewer. I also use Picasa 3 or Microsoft Office Picture mgr. I had used the Kodak program that came with my camera but it seemed to interfere with Windows at times.

Gad to hear that it was that simple.

removing and reinstalling office would reset the preferences on what opens picture files, that is probably what caused this problem.

If you want windows to always use that program to open pictures, right click on a picture and click on open with, then click on "Choose Program From List", from the list choose the one you want to use and make certain the "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" box is checked, then you will be able to just double click on the file and it will open with that program (you will have to do this on .bmp, .jpg, etc files separately)

I'm stuck on an old PSP program, ver 6.02 to be exact.

Ya get so used to a certain program, everything else seems so foreign.

Yeah that's what I did, must have done it before as well since that's how it always worked. Tried to let the program scan for files but I didn't want to start using it that way so I'll just ignore the short cuts option.

I'm sure there's more advanced programs out now, but this one works for me, being so used to it as well.
