As the title states, I need a box blade. I measured the width with a tape earlier; it looks to be somewhere around 66-68" wide with the R4 tires. Would a 72" work well with this machine? I want the tractor to be inside the blade and don't know if anything exists between 66 and 72.

We want something heavy and high quality. We also don't mind paying for the quality. Our dirt is thick, black dirt with no rock. What do ya'll think?

Sounds good. The ones we are considering weigh anywhere from 500-700lbs. That includes the Woods, the stuff from everything attachments, and the normal Frontier/Land Pride/etc. Any specific recommendations? I want it to be serviceable so replaceable tips are a must. Can the cutting blade be sharpened or is it a throwaway part? Thanks for the help!

What are you going to be using the box blade for? Thick black dirt with no rocks sounds heavenly to me! :) I live in the rocky mountains and its.... well.... rocky! and like concrete! but a box blade can make sort work of it.

Although I've heard cheap box blades exist, I have yet to own or run across a poorly made box blade. The ripper shanks are usually always replaceable if one was to bend and the tooth is also replaceable (unless its a cheap welded one). both blades should be adjustable and replaceable as well. I have never had to sharpen one but I suppose it could be possible, they seem like they might be a universal part throughout the good box blade brands? My neighbor has one for sale that has hydraulic controlled wheels attached to the back, looks like it would work great for land leveling.

Around here we don't have a large supply of implements so i buy up all the used ones i can find for sale at decent prices and quality and resell them in the spring. I currently have a box blade that was manufactured by a company out of Texas, but cant remember the name. Its a sun faded blue and all the stickers are now long gone, bought it second hand with bunch of other attachments and a tractor, sold everything except the box blade. I recently have used it to rip a 200 feet long, 7 foot wide by 2 foot deep spill way after our property was flooded twice because a agricultural aqueduct flooded its banks up the road and there wasn't a ditch to direct the massive flow of water. The ground was pretty much concrete but after a few passes, it tore through it like nothing.

I would keep an eye out for a good used one, I've bought them in various sizes and good shape for around $100, unless you need one right now and can afford the new price.

I personally use roll over box blades . While the 3 units that I have are Gannon ROBBs (no longer made:() there are others out there and everyone that has one seems to be very satisfied with them. Not as heavy as an industrial unit, but nicer than the std units. A 6 footer would be in the 700+ lb range. It is very nice to have the rippers in place with a single pull on a lever.

Just my :2cents:

Hey guys, thanks for all the help. We ended up finding one from a local TX company that appears to be built very solid and mid-700lb range. I leveled and smoothed about 3/4 of an acre last night for funsies. It was quick and easy; I'm satisfied.
