Hi,
I have been in the market for a 15k-20k dozer for about a year now. I found a 1998 Komatsu D39P-1 with 3000 hrs in nice shape. Going to look at it tomorrow. I have been doing some research and it seems parts are a little hard to come by. I know this is a rebadged Dressta TD9. I called my nearest Komatsu service/parts place and spoke with their parts department. He stated that parts are still available and the machine is serviceable. I like the fact that it has pilot controls and a hydrostat drive. It seems a comparable machine ( weight and HP) by Cat, Deere or Case is at least 10k more. My question to you long time dozer guys is, do you know of any problems getting parts for this machine? Thanks for your help.

My father has an older D41 and no problems getting parts. Get everything direct from the Komatsu dealer.

Tip: Shop around extensively to dealers of ALL names for wear parts. A lot of them use a generic supplier and sometimes you can get a great deal if that dealer is running a promotion. We bought an undercarriage for our TD8E at my local Cat dealer. They advertised for all makes and models and got a great price for rails, rollers, idlers, sprockets and pads. Less than half price than that of the Komatsu dealer.

I can tell you like others have said the parts are still availble through a Komatsu dealer. However you may not like the price of them. I have a 2006 Komatsu D31px21 and hydrolic motor speed sensor cost me $1000 for just the sensor. Wear parts are not bad priced its just the dealer spefic parts that will leave a bad taste in your mouth. Komatsu's are good dozers comparable to a toyota tacoma of the auto industry.

Sorry for the late post. It may not be a hydrostatic drive. I have a Dresser TD9H version with the two lever hydraulic steering. Later Dresta models used a single joystick to actuate servos on a standard hydraulic steering setup. A hybrid with joystick control of standard hydraulic steering setup. If the dozer has a power shift speed control this is likely what it has. The Dresser/Dressta/Komatsu dozers don't seem to get much love but I have had no problem with mine. Many standard parts like Cummins engine. You can work on most of it with a small SAE socket and wrench set. No emissions stuff. Most parts are available through a Komatsu dealer. Winmill Equipment in VT is a Dressta dealer and has knowledge of these older Dresser/Dressta/Komatsu machines and parts.
