I'm considering buying a 19' Mastercraft competition ski boat from Seattle if I can get a decent price to haul it. I have a bid listed on uship.com and have gotten a couple of bids. Unfortunantly they are more than I want to spend. I am hoping that a truck will be coming back east empty and would want to make a few bucks. I don't need the boat till the beginning of June. Any advice, suggestions or comments are welcome.

I deal boats and you must be getting a heck of a deal to buy one 2,000 miles away. My limit is 500 miles and thats pushing it.

Boats are tough to haul due to the width. This makes them tough to load on the trailer. Most are shipped without the trailer on a flatbed then the trailers mated to them at the marina.

Good luck but I would look more locally for one you can just go get.

Competition ski boats usually have less than an 8' beam so even if it came with a trailer, you should be able to get it on a flatbed without a permit

When you are using Uship make sure that you know for sure whether the bids you are receiving are from an actual carrier or from a broker before agreeing to anything. I've been down this route before with shipping vehicles, equipment, etc, you might just assume that every bid is coming from a carrier giving you an actual "this is what it costs, I can pick it up in X days" offer when it's really a broker saying we "think" we can get it shipped for you for $xxx.....we'll try. A broker will list your load on one of the large shipping boards and hope someone picks it up...basically doing the same thing you just did by using Uship but now they are acting as an intermediary...which can at times be helpful if they will actively seek someone to move your load. Sometimes, you are nearly forced to use a broker unless you want to pay outrageous prices ( the brokers do bring in the aspect of competitive bidding). The bid they give you should include their fees and the amount they are going to pay the trucking company. Never pay a broker anything up front! Don't be surprised if it takes weeks to get a load moved...sometimes trucks just aren't moving from point A to point B unless you are willing to spend a fortune.

The boat is on a trailer, total weight including trailer is 3000lbs. I have bids from $1800 down to a couple at $1000. This is them towing boat. I also got a bid at $1200 and that is on a flatbed. But then I have to arrange loading and unloading. Good points about the brokers, I have asked questions to a couple of the bidders. By their answers it seems like they are the ones doing the hauling.

wow.... cause... its like 2K miles assume 10mpg... 200 gal at $4 = $800 in fuel alone.

Probably already coming this way on a back haul moving either boats or RV's. Remember 80% of RV's are coming form Earhart Indiana, about 75 miles from Chicago and a good portion of the pleasure boats are made in Indiana and Illinois along with utility trailers being made in Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, and Kentucky.

Now that I think of it try contacting a big RV manufacture. All the trucks and drivers are independent contractors but someone like Forest River up your way may put you in contact with some drivers that could get it back.

My tractor was piggy-backed with several pieces of equipment. But be ready to wait a week or two...Turned out to be a hot shot rig with one ton towing it. Jy.

Uship has a book it now feature. Put the amount you are willing to pay and see if anyone bites. Make sure to get a copy of there license and Insurance prior to agreeing to anything. That is a long haul and I would be surprised if legit shipper could do it for less than $1000 given the current spike in fuel prices. I booked a haul with a shipper on Uship and had my tractor 2 days later. Good Luck

Well, I booked it with SW Florida transport. They were $1200, the seller is arranging a marina to load the boat and trailer on the shippers trailer. I talked to the driver who I believe is going to haul it. I believe he said it was very large gooseneck boat trailer (50'). he has some cribbing to rest my trailer with boat on it on his trailer. He must be picking up some other loads to make money.Thank you all for the wealth of information, this site is amazing.
