National Tree Vote---NOW

The Vote for America's National Tree has put the following five trees in the lead so far -- (in alphabetical order) Dogwood, Maple, Oak, Pine and Redwood.

Well, it seems as if Y'all would wanna go for a native tree, such as the Myrtle Wood and the Redwood. The Myrtlewood is also native to Oregon, and one spot in the middle east..makes it a little on the rare side.

Shooting-from-the-hip with no deep thought or research, ... seems to me that a tree unique to the US would best represent the nation.

We've heard of English Oak, Canadian Spruce, etc. Are the magnificent Seqouias or Redwoods found any place else on earth?

If not, seems like a good choice to me!

There are a few different things that I thought about when picking my choice.

First, to be a national tree it should have a wide growth area around the nation not just on one coast. Just think of all the people from the east coast who would never see a redwood in person.---I never have!

Second a tree of beauty.--All trees have there own beauty.

Third something that is or has lumber value.

Guess those are a few of the things that I thought about when casting my vote. The Maple was second. I can't take away from the size and beauty of the Redwood and the Seqouias. But the limited growth areas came into play for that decision.

Red Maples, yes that's exactly what I'm putting in. We have one at our current house and really like it. My only concern is that the deer will like them also /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif I may have to put tubes up.
