Name that Plow

All,

I have opportunity to buy an older one bottom, 2 way plow. It's a rather unique design, and I'm trying to figure out if it's complete, and exactly how the trip and rotate mechanism functions. I'm thinking this plow is likely manufactured for a specific tractor brand and model as the three point configuration is very unique.

The only identifying data on the thing is a single small metal plaque on the left side with the following data:

NO. 8944
Type LP16TW

I briefly owned a similar unit and sold it as it was too big for my Kubota BX24, and now, having seen this one, it was missing major components. I now have a larger Ford 1956 Model 900 Row Crop that should be plenty capable of handling this plow, as long as it'll actually connect.

I'm posting a couple of pics, and would very much appreciate any information anyone could provide that will help solve the mystery of the brand/manufacturer!

I have little doubt that you will pull that plow with the Ford tractor....but it doesnt appear that its going to hook up to that Ford's three point system. From the data it must be a 16' bottom. From the extensive use of castings...this was a well designed, major manufacturer.

I gotta believe that this plow was made to hook up to an Allis Chalmers, IH, Case, or another brand with a "fast hitch" or some other set up that was made to compete with a three point hitch such as used by Ford and Massey.

Maybe you can remove some parts to make it work....but its hard to determine that from what I can see.

We need FWJ or some other veteran "plow jockey" to chime in on this one.

Ken, I take it you know how it operates or what it is used for, but I know everybody on this forum won't know. I happened to see one not long ago and the older fellow explained to me it was for plowing on a slop or hill or around a mountain. He explained that you ALWAYS throw your dirt uphill, erosion will take it back down. You plow around the mountain, not up and down, throwing your dirt uphill. When you get to the end of the row, turn your tractor around and start back the other way flipping your plow over continuing to throw your dirt uphill. Pretty nifty plow.

That pic sure looks like it mounts to the back of a Ford or Ferguson tractor.....but I don't see how with that cast "top link" arrangement. Maybe removing the top link "receiver casting" from the tractor to attach the plow? I don't get it (obviously). If I owned the plow.....I would want that owner manual.

Thats a 3 point plow see the lower lift for the 3point arms the top link is cast. I cant think of the name I ve seen them before like that. The main method of plowing with these plows was instead of circling the field to make the furrows you can go to the end and come back in the same furrow and still have all the furrow laid over.

They made them for all types of tractors even Cubs and walking tractors. I think alot of them are still used in England on the long narrow feilds there.

I've never used one, but the red circles attach to the lower TPH arms and the black circle attaches to the top link mount on the tractor, obviously this is a swivel as the hole is not straight across.
