Tractor
Kubota L2800
I purchased a new 2010 Kubota L2800 tractor this past summer. I've only got about 18 hours on it so far, but I love it. Since winter is looming and the days are getting so short I have been pondering the thought of putting some additional lights on my tractor, particularly some rear facing ones. So, I was looking for a way to mount them and have been looking at the Kubota light kit. Today, however, I noticed a welded nut on my ROPS that I hadn't seen before and am now wondering what it is for. Here is a pic of what I am talking about:

On most pictures I have looked at of other people's tractors, there are only two holes in the ROPS bracket. Mine has a nut welded in the upper hole. What is this nut for? I'm sure once somebody answers it'll be one of those Homer Simpson "D'OH" moments, but for the life of me I can't figure out what it is for. What I am contemplating is using those holes to mount a bracket to hold a light. I can fab one up pretty easily I'm thinking.

Here are a couple more pics:

It is for a knob that puts pressure against the upper part of the assembly to keep it from rattling. Most of the ROPS have them, but very few have the knobs. My parents have a Kubota ZD21 mower and it has the knobs on the ROPS in place. I've seen a few of the smaller kubota tractors with them also.

I wondered that too when I got mine a couple of years ago. The only thing I could figure was maybe it was used in the crating up process for shipping.

I bought a set for my ROPS and they stop it from rattling.

Well, I'll be dipped. So, that's what they're for. D'OH!!! Many thanks guys.

On another note, since I have to drop my ROPS to get my tractor in the garage, the tension knobs would be pretty much useless to me since it would just be something else to fiddle with every time I park it. I may just do what I mentioned above and fab up some light brackets and use those holes to bolt them down. Anybody know what size those nuts are?

Actually, they don't interfere with dropping the ROPS. You might need to back them off a bit when raising it again depending on how tight you had em...

You're missing the thumbwheel to tighten the ROPS in up position. Dealer should be embarassed and give you a couple. (mine would)

Not sure if yours are the same size but my B3200 are 8 mm, (I think), fine pitch thread. I didn't know about the knobs so I bought bolts and use jam nuts to quiet the rattleling ROPS.

I used the welded nut to attach work lights on my tractor. No additional bracket was necessary. If you search for [ l4400 work lights ] you can see some pictures that I posted.

Here's how I put lights on my B7510 a few years ago.
