JD X585
Hi Guys it's been awhile and I've been really busy! My JD and all the goodies was delivered to my new place Tuesday. I was so busy moving I didn't have much time to try it out. I finally got to play with it and it's great. I may get to try the blade out in the morning out looks like we may get about three inches of the white stuff.

Thanks again for the great advise.

Jim

I really enjoyed my X585, but do recall the blade had reasonably strong down pressure even in the float position. One thing you might consider, assuming you have a hard surface is a rubber squeege kit for the blade, so the rubber is taking the abuse and not allowing the cutting edge to scratch your hard surface.

Great Tractor! I have almost exactly the same thing except I mulch rather than use a collector. Unbelievable how maneuverable it is and how well it pushes snow (no chains, wghts or anything). My next addition is a loader for it...

Looks like a great setup for your 5 acres. Should make quick work of it. I saw an X585 at the dealer yesterday and they are a sizeable machine.

Wow, still opening boxes and putting stuff away, I just remembered why I don't like to move /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

JohnDeere_2210, thanks I did get the rubber scraper on the blade and it does help protect the driveway.

Steadite, I agree on mulching i got the collector for leaves, I don't plan on raking this yard.

Mow well,

Jim

That is one great machine- I have the 485 and I am anxious to see what you think of the mpg- there is not a more comfortable or better GT on the market in my opinion- congrats-

I only have about three hours on it so far but the gage hasn't move much, maybe a quarter tank or so. It is unbelievably simple to use and rides great. We only got a covering of snow so no playing today /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif I think I'm done for today...time to relax!

Actually, the fuel gage is a bit flaky (mine is anyway). It won't move for hours, then the last 3/4 tank will drop fast. They do use a fair bit of gas too...

Same with my X595. I think it has something to do with the shape of the tank. The top half has more volume than the bottom. Think of it as an inverted pyramid.

My doesn't use much gas at all.

I have to refuel when it is almost touching the red- I have run out of fuel a couple times- When I hit 1/4 tank I call that my empty-

The rubber edge works great for moving snow and won't tear the grass up if you happen to go off a little. Anyone with a stone driveway knows how well it works scraping the stones off of the grass and back on the driveway without tearing up the lawn.
There is no down pressure in the float position if working properly. Only the weight of the blade.
