Just finished this yesterday. Popular project on TBN this summer. Thought that I would break down the costs and a little about the material it was made from.
It all started when a friend gave me a couple of pieces of Kenworth log truck frame. Had another person I know plasma cut 1 double wall frame rail to give me 4 3x3 angles, and 2 @6 inch wide plates. The finished width of the unit was limited by the frame rails that I was given at 62 inches wide. The rails on top of the unit hold up to 8 concrete blocks for additional ballast. The rails for the blocks came out of a crate that my finish mower came in.
So this is how the cost breaks down.
Steel 0
Plasma Cutting 25.00
7 lbs 6011 rod 14.00
welding wire 6.00
2 7/8 x 4 inch bolts nuts and washers 12.00
Paint (later) 12.00
Total 69.00 USD
