My sure sign of spring.

Even though we still have close to 6 inches of crusty snow on the ground I have been seeing signs of spring. The days are getting longer, the sun is feeling warmer, and there is new growth emerging on the trees. But, the surest sign of all hit me square in the nose as I walked down to the barn this evening. The aroma of freshly squeezed skunk was wafting toward me from the road. Finally I know that spring is really just around the corner.

Spring peepers are my sign. Spring is well underway by then.

I agree with Peepers but not as the first sign for me. I would say spring is well underway by the time I hear them. When I see Eastern Bluebirds roaming the birdhouses, I know spring is around the corner. The Bluebirds have been on my property in full force for the past couple weeks. The Turkey Buzzards are back and cirlcing too, which is a good sign. But what really does it for me is the Red Winged Blackbirds. They are back now, as of yesterday, and they really make it fell like spring for me.

I have had a pair of Blue Birds for about a month now, the nest near the house appears almost finished.This week I have seen 1000's of Snow Geese headed North, just waiting on the Hummingbirds now.

Haven't heard them here yet.
It's usually about or near the 23rd of march.
For some reason we didn't hear them last year.
That's never happened before.
