Hi, MY PTO SHAFT IS SPINNING BUT BLADES ARE NOT MOVING, What could be the causes & remedies??

Does you PTO have a sheer pin? When the pin breaks, the PTO will spin but you wont mow anything.

You hit something really hard and probably not very movable and sheared your shear pin in the PTO shaft coupling to the gearbox.
A couple of bucks spent at Tractor Supply and a punch and hammer and you should be spinning those blades again.:thumbsup:

Don't forget to check the end of the shaft that connects directly to the tractors PTO shaft. A number of pieces of my equipment have shear pins there and on the gearbox too. Look close, this might be the culpret. Hold the "U" joint and turn the end of the shaft, if one part turns and the other doesnt. . . well you've found the problem. Do this only with the tractor off and PTO out of gear! Good luck John :thumbsup:

Buy a couple of extra pins and keep them in your toolbox. Little bit of insurance against the next time it happens.

If the pto shaft and the inpput shaft on the gearbox are both turning, then it is more serious, depending on the type of mower. Could be a gear in the gearbox or a belt if it is a finish or flail. This doesn't even address other types such as hydraulic powered. David from jax
