Just bought my new to me ride on Thursday. Turned in an 07 3/4T Ext. cab 8' box w/ Dmax and Allison I was leasing.
Its an 08 1500 Ext cab 4x4 LT. Has the 5.3 and 4 spd. auto, limited slip w/ 3.73 in dark cherry metallic. Loaded with options to numerous to list and only 17K miles. Rated to tow 7500 lb. That's all I tow up to anyway so I didn't need a 3/4T.

Beautiful truck! Once they started the painted bumpers with chrome insert vs those massive chrome front bumpers, the looks of the new GM trucks started to grow on me.

I just hope they are as reliable as the six 93-96 Chevy trucks and Tahoes that we have for work that all have over 200,000 miles on them.

Nice but why the down grade? I just got a new Dmax and love it. It ride much nicer than the my f-250. If you don't tow much a new 1/2 ton is just the ticket.

Matt, The last two trucks I had were both 3/4T with Dmax. I went back to a 1/2T for several reasons.
1) I don't tow very often anymore and don't tow anything over 8K since I sold my larger equipment so don't need a 3/4T.
2) The 07 3/4T Dmax I turned in was a lease truck that I was unhappy with for only one reason. The mileage was terrible. Since the addition of the DPF (Diesel particulate filter) in 07 I was only able to get 15 MPG empty and lucky if I got 10 while towing. The previous 05 Dmax I had was a good one but also a lease truck. I should have bought that one because I got 20 MPG and 15 while towing.
3) 1/2T will be easier to maintain with lower costs of normal services. New 3/4 and larger trucks are going to have much greater service costs with all the newer emissions crap they are adding.

Nice truck! My buddy has the same truck but in the champagne color. He loves it. We towed our bikes from MA. to South Dakota for the bike week last August. It was a very comfy ride.

Beautiful truck!

Let us know how it tows. I find that my 1/2 ton is powerhouse with the 5.3L, but feels a little squirrely when towing. I attribute it to the soft suspension. I'd like to get the opinion of someone who has recently towed with both. Sounds like you will have some good seat of the pants data. Trying to decide if my next truck will be a 3/4 ton.

I've got 130K miles on my 2004 GMC Sierra, and other than a few electrical issues and owner/operator stupidity (me!), I've had excellent service from my truck. Its seen daily driver duty, a lot of highway miles, a little moderate towing, a little abusive towing, a few years of commercial snowplowing and still more daily driving. These are good all around vehicles that are reasonable on fuel but have plenty of power when spirited driving is in order!
