Has someone experienced their Kubota
M59 not starting? I was pushing it pretty hard today.. it still has fuel - but the idiot light for battery and heat come on when I try to start it.. has juice.. and fuel.. just sits there ... says HST Neutral.. any ideas? Just had it serviced.. for about $300.. not is just doesn't run!!?
Newbie on the
M59...
Dave, did you get it started? BTW, congrats on the
M59. You are going to find it is one amazing machine. The consensus is that Kubota really hit their engineering target on this one. The
M59 is built with a "lets make it as good as possible and charge accordingly" philosophy that probably made sense in the years (2006/7?) when the machine was being designed..... but then they had the misfortune to introduce it to the public right before the economic collapse. I know because that's when we bought ours! And it hurt. So they're expensive, and new ones even more so. But the guys (and one gal I know of) who have the
M59 like them.
To answer your first question: No, I haven't heard of anyone having any problem starting. In fact, in four years now of following the
M59 I don't recall a single problem with the basic tractor and loader at all.
To be accurate, there have been some issues and problems with the backhoe cylinders and backhoe hydraulic flow. Most of those easily diagnosed & fixed, but they have definitely happened. But not with the tractor or loader. There are lots of threads on the
M59.
I'm guessing that on yours one of the controls got moved to a position that has actuated one of the multitude of safety switches, just like crbr mentioned. Remembering once when mine wouldn't start it turned out to be mud on the rubber mat under the HST foot pedal. That HST pedal has to be centered in the neutral position or the tractor will not start even though the side-mount dashboard lights up fine. Another time I was having trouble starting mine until I noticed that I had gotten into the bad habit of letting my boot touch the HST pedal. It won't start unless that HST pedal position is perfect....and that's a good thing!
There are lots of safety switches on the
M59, and probably some way to query the machines computer brain as to what is going on, but if so I don't know how. If anyone does, please post it.
Are you getting any error messages?
For example, the
M59 won't start if the seat is in the backhoe position unless the hand brake is also engaged - and then it will start. That's might be good for safety, but I can't count the times I've driven off or engaged the creep function with the darn hand brake still on.
And there's a safety switch on the clutch pedal as well...but offhand I can't remember what that does. Better check your ops manual on that one.
And of course you do know there's a safety switch that won't let it start unless someone is sitting in the operator seat.
Shucks, for all I know there's a safety switch that checks for alcohol content in the beer bottle-sized cup holder.....oops.....hey, I'm just kidding Kubota....really I am.... no, we don't need one more safety switch....
Sorry not to be of more help, but I'm betting with the others: either the battery or some combination of safety switches.
