My Frozen Little Town

The little unthawed town I live in does have a short period Thawing.

Attached are several pictures of both the Thawed Season and the Unthawed season.

Its a nice little town with a River running through it. Lots of birds around. Eagles are frequently seen flying the river valley. Cormorants sit on river rocks, wings spread. There is always a gull or two circling in the sky. The odd bear or deer find their way into town. Raccoons make regular patrols.

From our house one can see three Church Steeples and listen to the Bells on a Sunday. Just around the corner lie several establishments that serve food and beverages. One has a lovely little balcony over the river. Of course in the Unthawed period everyone sits huddled around it's stove gathering what heat they can.

We also crowd the fireplace in the Unthawed period. Perhaps a hot rum Toddy to warm the cockles, cheese to sate the appetite and sometimes I even think of having a cracker or two!

Sounds nice. Any ice fishing during the unthawed period?

There are a few places a little ways down river were fellows get to ice fish for a few weeks during the unthawing period.

It is a nice little town. Stand on the curb at mid block and traffic will stop to let you cross the street. If a horn honks someone has recognized someone and is saying hello. No Middle finger required.

Town clears the sidewalks of snow and the streets are cleared very quickly.

There is one slight downside though. We have some younger soundfolk who have these annoying low base speakers thumping. Fortunately they are not that common.

For us it does get hot in the thawed period. Some days it gets up into the mid 30C or above. On those days one heads to the beaches for a cool wind or just walk in the water and freeze your legs.


Lots of trees along the streets. On some the branches meet in the middle and make a nice summer canopy. Only downside ?? here is the fall leaf racking program takes a while! But the paint program makes up for that.

I don't think I've ever seen a picture from Nova Scotia that was not a postcard view...thawed or unthawed.

The first picture mentions two cars. Are they also in the second photo, now just obscured by the tomato plants? (And as I typed this I said toe mah toe.)

I was going to point out a captioning error in the attractive pictures - reference is made to 2 cars, clearly a typo. You must have meant "the camera is pointing 'too' a car" or some such.

One thing that always makes me happy talking to my Canadian friends is it makes Massachusetts seem so tropical!
