This is my ballast box, wood hauler, and tool hauler. I use sand for ballast and dump it when not needed. I well be adding a chain saw holder and log roller.(forgot what they are called). I'm not sure if I well be putting a receiver hitch on yet.
I made 3 of them all at the same time. They are 2' X 4' X 16" high. One was 19" high because it went on a 5000 Ford. Mine is used on a L4240.

That thing is sweet!!! never seen that take on a rear carrier, it's a little dump body. All steel construction?
Now just put a cutting edge on the bottom and use it as a scoop, guess you don't need that with the loader, but you could quickly scoop up your ballast anyway :)

Nice job,

JB.

I agree awsome piece. I would love to have one of those!! You should think about marketing them. Great job!

I've been wanting to do something like that on the same tractor. I was hopeing to go a bit large though. So the first question is, where did you get the hydraulic top link, how long is it retracted and extended? Have you hauled much in it yet? Could it be bigger and still be efficent? More as a dump carrier than a ballast box though.

First off, Thanks you guys!!!
I have had it full of wet sand and it done good. My tires are loaded and I only need about 3/4 full for ballast. The box it self is heavy, the tail gate is all I want to miss with when taking it off. I think it needs handles.
As for as being bigger. The way I'm hooked up to the pins, it well just hit the ground when dumping. I think the tail gate hits 1st and that is the 2nd reason I made it to come off the way it does so it wouldn't bend it. You could go a little wider, but didn't want to because when doing loader work I don't look back much. And you would be alright going alittle deeper. Hight is good at 16" to 20". But I'll say one thing when that is full of sand you know it's there.
The top link is from surpus center (9-7259-16) 23 1/2" with 16" strock. The ideal one for our tractor is 14", but they don't stock that one with a 2" bore. They have them in the 1 1/2" stock and the hole size is right. I use a bushing and tack welded it in. The top pin on the box should of been at 17" or 18", when down all the way it well push the PTO gaurd down. That is at least on the L4240.
