My 2520 just turned 100

Hours, that is. I snapped this picture while I was out mowing:



Right after I took the picture, I shut down the tractor and then it wouldn't crank. Two years and 100 hours seems to be the life span of the OEM battery. Worst part was that I had driven the tractor a couple miles away from home to mow a field. I had to catch a ride to go get the truck and some jumper cables, which I then had to leave in order to drive the tractor back home again. After playing hopscotch with vehicles and getting a new battery, all is well again.

The battery in my last john deere which was a 99 lasted 8 years. Maybe your tractor sits too much and the battery failed

I've actually read many similar reports from other 2520 owners. It seems that the engine vibration kills the batteries in these tractors.

I just replaced the battering my 2320 2 weeks ago. I thought it was weird as well that it only lasted 2.5yrs. The parts guy at my dealership is, let's say, a little challenged and had difficulty figuring out if my battery was under warranty and if so how much. You would have thought I was asking this guy to do my taxes. After making me wait for about 20 mins the sales guy that I bought it from came over and said, "the guy bought it from here and lives right down the road, just give him the battery and if he owes us anything send him a bill "

Needless to say I haven't received a bill yet :laughing:

I always keep a automatic battery maintainer on my boat, motorcycles, and tractor when not in use, Makes a huge differnce in life span. If your battery sits for weeks or even 2 weeks its can drop enough voltage to need charging, That can and will weaken your battery, Google battery basics.

I have read several people that get more than 2 years and others that usually get fewer than 2 years. There are so many variables that will influence the life-span of a battery that it is hard to narrow down why they failed.

I leave mine outside all winter, hardly gets started, maybe once or twice a month. I have never had an issue with mine. I have a 4-wheeler with a 7+ year old battery, and those are notorious for being worthless.

My Toyota Camry eats a battery every 3 years no matter what.

Sometimes they just die.

Mine is getting real close to 100 also. My battery quit right away. Maybe around 10 hrs, can't remember. That tractor has made upkeep around here so much easier!!

Mines a 08 bought new in April of 09, 29X hrs and going strong on the original battery..

Well,we will see if that holds true for these batteries. Mine just turned 101.7 today and it also is 2 years old. Actually, 2-1/2 to be exact.

I think being idle is more the likely culprit rather than hours or years. May last JD battery lasted 4 years until I left the key on and ruined it.
