John Deere 2305
Seems to be 2305 season as Monday I took delivery of mine with the 200cx 54mmm 54 front blade, independent mid lift and cruise.
Thanks for the picture help as I tried powertoys for the first time.
Note in the picture that the deck is in lock position and it hangs pretty low. The manual shows how to adjust with the standard linkage but not the independent lift. Guess I'll have to crawl under and figure it out. I have the tires loaded but no ballast box. Moved some full buckets of topsoil with no problem. Pulled some fence posts and got the rear end up a couple of times. Enough to make me more cautious with the SCV. The mower deck blows clippings into the next county. My old Cubbie always left a windrow. My 12 year old and the Aussies have obviously taken to the new deere as well.
Thanks again to all you folks for such great advice. Can't wait to plow that lake effect snow up here.

ILMS,

Congrats on your new toy --- I mean needed tool! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif One of the trade-off's with a sub-CUT is the lift height. This goes for the front hitch attachments, the rear, and the MMM. You'll learn to live with it. As for ballast, get yourself the box or an attachment like a box blade. Trust me, you need it. I wouldn't even think of moving full buckets of topsoil without ballast (I have the 53" bucket).

Remember, shiny side up! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Nice looking tractor. Look like you will have to share some seat time with your young operator. Congratulations, be safe and enjoy.

Nice Tractor. Post more pics.

I definitely agree with JDFANATIC, get a box blade or a weight box before doing any serious work with the FEL. The rear will get really light without one. Sometimes I have cleaned out the horse stalls without the BB and can tell a major difference in traction on the rear. Wouldn't dare lift anything heavy without the BB attached. In fact, I will be putting wheel weights on mine shortly.

Besides what has already been said by yourself and others about the rear end getting light and reduced traction, you are putting way to much stress and weight on the front axle. when there is to little weight on the rear of the tractor, the front axle becomes the fulcrum point when lifting a heavy load in the bucket.
The rear lifts up (or gets light), the bucket is being pushed down by all the weight in it, so all that weight (the tractor, FEL, plus material in bucket) is now concentrated on the front axle. I can assure you the front axle is not designed to carry all this weight. You will end up breaking it and/or stripping the gears in it if you are in four 4WD.

The loader manual will tell you how you how to properly ballast the tractor, and it is definitely more than just loaded tires!

Most dealers include the ballast box in the quote for a FEL, unless the buyer is getting a heavy 3PH implement in the deal.

JD may also not warranty a axle problem if they figure out the tractor is not properly ballasted with the the FEL.
