My #1 girlfriend, like me is getting along in years. Both of us have a little "hitch in our Get Along. Every time I have to help her get her big butt in the truck. I tell here she has to loose weight. Now at about 150Lbs.

Now that I have a new girlfriend she is showing signs of being Jealous and I'm having the same problem with the new one. On top of that the steal from each other. Both of them are a little sneaky as well.

Both of them are Alpha Females, so both want to be the boss. Every day they get a little better and more tolerant of each other and are close to playing together.

About a year ago a friend about 10 years younger than I am, ask me to take care of "Bobby" if something should happen to him. Just like him, he up and died almost a month ago.

He never taught "Bobby" anything, but she is very smart and a quick learner. My way of training is pretty simple and easy. No yelling, hitting or anything like that. Just talk to them and they know pretty much what I want by the tone of my voice. The young one is also learning from my old girl.

Sorry for the long post. Will quit for now and maybe add later.

You tricked me

Before I scrolled down and saw the dogs, I was reading the first paragraphs thinking, man this guy is way over his head with 2 girl friends. Then I got to the part about them playing together, and thought, oh no, to much information!

Then I saw the pics of your friends :)

Nice story!

And I hear you, female dog with attitude - AKA alfa - is a can of worms. I will never have two female dogs in the same house again.

The girls are doing better. Respect for each others space and able to share the same space when needed. While not exactly in love with each other, there have been almost no squabbles lately.

Little one is very bright and curious, she learns fast and has mastered quite a few simple commands. such as wait, sit, lay down, inside, outside and learning not to get out of the truck if my back is turned. A little over an acre is fenced and neither of them goes out an open gate unless I am with them.

I can sit them on each side of me and take turns hand feeding them. We have cheese or hot dog time almost every day. Each waits her turn and when I show my palms, its all gone.

More later as things progress.

Might I suggest making a ramp to help with entry into the truck. About a month ago my big guy slipped as he was getting into the truck. I reached under his belly to catch him and got a searing pain in my bicep. First thought was that something tore, but a month later it seems to be on the mend slowly and hopefully with no permanent damage.

My ramp is about 5' long x 12" wide and has some carpet screwed on for traction. Seems to work quite well. Mine is in the back of the Crew Cab. Obviously if yours rides in the box the ramp might need to be longer.

Thanks for the though and reply. Good idea. I have some old steps for her to get in the flat bed truck. but she does not really like steps as once in a while her hip gives out going up them.

See the picture - either a plank is laid across or truck parked closer.

Last summer I had two girls one older one middle age, my son and I were working moving some old lumber back to a burn pile in the turn around and the girls were trying to get ahead of the truck as we passed the shop. The ground there has some uneven spots and the older girl must have stumbled...anyway even as slow as we were going she would up going under a tire and bless her heart I had to put her down.

Several months later the middle aged girl was going to be left alone at home when I went to town, she had such a sad face I decided I would treat her and take her with me. As we drove to town she was laying on the front seat, all of a sudden she jumped up and started sniffing to beat the band. She found the old girls collars which I had hund from my rear view mirror as a rememberance. She sniffed that collar looked at me and whined so sadly it like to broke my heart.

I told the two legged girl that lives with us we needed to get another friend for the remaining four legged pal.

We went to the SPCA and rescued a great big male golder retriever cross named Duke. Now Duke was a wanderer thats how he found his way to the pound so if we werent around he had to be chained. Duke was the kind of dog that just had to be with you or near you to be happy. He would lay so close when I was welding sparks would hit him, but move farther away? No way!

Anyway Duke pulled a Houdini and got off his chain, we live in a rural area and he got to chasing some deer across the highway and got hit by a truck. I miss him very much, a lady at the SPCA found him on the highway and took him to town so the coyotes didn't get at him. (Geez this is hard to write)

Mama and I went to town to say our good byes to Duke. We never meant to get another dog, but Lo and behold there were three rescued recently abused black lab cross pups. Very shy and leary but very cute. Their names were Larry. Moe, and Curly. Larry the largest and least shy came home with us a day later and I am happy to say he gets along well with the middle aged girl and has a happy home. he is chained when we are home and in a dog run when we aren't. He is a little rambunctious for the likes of the older gal but she is never lonely.

It was a tough go during that stretch but alas it all worked out.

Miss you destiny
Miss you Duke
