mx5100 - is the bh92 backhoe model specific - do you just buy a bh92?

Hi Guys,

great site, helped me choose my soon to be tractor - a mx5100 hst.

I have one problem, the backhoe. In australia, there is some standard that the mx5100 bh92 combo doesnt meet (ROPS position). That being said, i am willing to ignore all the other mx5100/bh92 related deaths that occur all around the world each year and risk putting the two together.

I need to know whether the bh92 just connects to the mx5100 without any special kit from kubota. Ie, if i buy a mx5100 and then go and buy a bh92, will it connect up with out any dramas. Obviously my dealer is a bit reluctant to discuss this topic and i dont want to risk a $10k back hoe that doesn't fit.

I dont really want to down size to a L4600 as it would cost the same and be less of a tractor.

If you go to Kubota and build your mx5100 with a bh, the bh will be the bh92 with subframe.
If Kubota puts a bh on one of their tractors, I would guess that the ROPS should meet all standards.

looks like the BH92 needs a subframe as per the kubota site and this post:

so the million dollar question is - will the subframe of another tractor fit the mx5100 (like the l4600) if thats the case then i am in business. if not then i can either get a frame made up (not too keen on this one) or go for a different tractor (dont want to go back down to a l4600)

Kubota australia have said they wont/dont supply a backhoe (or subframe) for the mx5100

more info i have found.
it seams it is due to a different ROPS set up in australia. This new rops set up on the 5100 precludes the fitting on a back hoe - so frustrating!!!!!

looks like I have no option but to go for a L4600 which is basically the same price as the mx5100 would have been - doh!!

Don't know if they were sold down under, but if you can find a clean used one with low hours, the L4610 and L4630 models were virtually the same tractor as the MX series. Same horsepower; different engine, but otherwise very close... same loader, same HST transmission, similar 3 point, same front axle, etc. The L4630 took a BH90 backhoe... also a close match to the BH92. I have an L4610 with a 4560 backhoe (older model, similar performance). Virtually the same as the MX series.

Good luck; they aren't making things easy for you on this, are they?

How about buying a Kubota subframe from a US dealer and having it shipped over from a friend for your 5100?

that was certainly an option, but a sub frame and new rops from the US would be a killer in shipping.

I am now looking at the L4240 grand. it can take a BH here and i get a few extra's. lets see if the dealler can get the price down to 5100 level (should be based on MSRP)
