Multi-use welders

Since the prices of TIG and MIG welding equipment have dropped so much over the past several years, there's a lot more interest in the small shop, farm shop, and hobbyist market by equipment mfrs.

I have seen welders listed as being capable of plasma cutting, TIG, MIG, and stick welding, for under $500.00.

Are any of these worth considering? I do not weld for a living; my use is repair and the occasional implement 'improvement' project. I would like something that performs as it should but I don't need a long duty cycle, etc.

Does anyone here have experience with one of the multi-use machines?

I've read where people say to stay away from the units that have plasma and high frequency for Tig welding.
My Invertec V350-Pro is multi process, no plasma, or high frequency for Tig.

I agree..High Freq. When not shielded hates the other processes. To shield the HF would cost more than the unit is worth. Mig, Tig, Stick is ok and also with Plasma as long as the Plasma does not have HF start. Keep HF in it's own box and you will enjoy most any piece of equipment.

MIG TIG STICK machines are typically inverters. They are usually pretty good, depending upon the brand or supplier. Items like the Everlast MTS and the Thermal Arc units are good items.

The TIG/plasma/stick units are not as reliable, even though I sell them. A lot of stuff going on inside that competes with each other,especially the plasma with the TIG/STICK. They have their place, and their usefulness though. I don't recommend them to the average customer. They are great for a portable repair business or for use in factory where on site repair is a must.

We have some refurbished/used/rented equipment for sale that is tested to work and comes with a warranty for below $400 right now. May be worth looking into. It is our older model designs, but they have held up well now for 5+ years and still going strong.
