Mulching kit for JD x300

My boy wants a mulching kit for his 42" mower deck. We can buy just the plastic plug for the discharge shoot fairly cheap, but when mulching blades are added, it gets kind of spendy.

Are mulching blades needed for an excellent mulching experience?

Yes, mulching blades and the baffle is what you need to mulch properly (bm21816), or to do it like the 100 series just put on the cover (gy00115) w/ or w/out mulch blades.

I have a 2015 X300 with the mulch plug and I wasn't real happy with the mulching. The tractor came with the straight blades and I replaced with predator blades and there is a lot better job. I am mulching leaves three to four inches deep and have to mow over them twice but it is satisfactory. Paid $30. for the blades at my John Deere dealer, well worth the price.
