MTD Belt Size - MTD vs generic size

I have an MTD (Huskee) model 14AI808H131 that I use at our cottage. The belt numbers on the back of the seat calls out the PTO/Deck drive belt as 754-0487 (now 954-0487). When I cross-reference online, it shows it to be a 5/8" x 66" long, type BK, belt. The generic size is way too long. I'm having trouble finding the OEM belt at local TSC stores, so I thought I'd try a generic kevlar belt, but I'm not sure what size to buy. Has anybody come across this before? Do you know what size I should get?

I have a 1999 Monkey Wards lawn tractor made by MTD and I ran into the same issue.

MTD used a nonstandard pulley profile which throws off the length estimates.

Your best bet is to stick with the MTD part. the fatter profile fills up the pulley sheave and the belts last a long time.

Check on Amazon. There are multiple vendors that carry the MTD belts.

Botaskinner tells it like it is. If at all possible use the OEM on these. If you need one in a pinch, Stens shows it as 5/8 x 62" They don't make a spec belt for this , but reference their blue belts. And welcome to the forum!

I usually buy Napa belts ( now closed locally). They usually stocked belts every inch in length and I’ve never had any problems getting one to fit and are about 1/4 the price of OEM.

I ran into issues sourcing MTD belts on Amazon. I went to a local lawnmower sales outfit that has great stock. I just gave them mower model and let them pick belt. Perfect fit. Now I need to do the drive belt. Not looking forward to that.
