Is this tractor too big to realistically mow a lawn with a mid-mount mower? I live in the northeast and have about 2.5 acres. I would put turn tires on it, but I'm still worried about the weight I'm looking at a B3030. I really like the bucket and size of the 3130 though. The 3030 is nice and compact but the bucket just doesn't look heavy duty.

Some here believe that is to big and to heavy of a tractor for mowing the lawn. But I'm not one of them. I use a similar sized machine to mow my lawn and it works fine for me.

leterbuck:

I use an L3130 to mow my yard (5 acres), but I do the "trim" work first with a little JD L110. Of course, I'm mowing with a rear-mounted finish deck and not a belly deck, so I'm doing a lot of backing up to get close to an obstacle if I miss it during my trimming.

One thing to consider is if you have a lot of trees on your property, how low are the branches? Bear in mind your head will be about 7' or better off the ground when you're sitting in the operator's seat, and your ROPS (unfolded) requires more than 8' for clearance.

My wife and I have mowed 5 acres of bluegrass the past 2 years with a 3130 with turf tires and a 72" Woods rear discharge mower. You can make ruts in the spring if the ground is really wet. Before the 3130 came out, we used the same Woods mower on a 3010. We mainly bought the 3010 and 3130's because of the size of the operators area and the fact that it is the most machine you can get for the money from Kubota. We have the standard turf tires not the balloon golf course ones.

I have industrials on my L3130 and a 6' rear finish mower. The loader comes off when mowing. Just don't mow when its wet, I'll wait a couple days after a good rain. The yard does not get tracked up unless your trying to hurry to much. Meaning turning very sharp to fast and then its minor or mowing with the ground wet.

We do have a Craftsman 42" riding mower as well. That is used up close to the house and getting between tree and bush rows.

To answer your Q.....No its not to big.

I am mowing about 2/3's of my yard with my L3430 with rear finish mower. Works well, only marks yard when turning hard. Also did our church's yard about five times last year and no one complained, in fact said the yard never looked better!

I have left the loader on, but this year I am going to take it off to finish mow. Should be easer on the grass and able to miss objects.

Are you mowing a lawn? (translated nice, green and immaculate) Or are you mowing a yard? (Green enough to grow and keep the ground from becoming a mud pit)

I mow my yard (see above description) with a 72" MMM on my L3130 with FEL, AG tires and bucket off. And I concur with the other posters that wet ground and sharp turns do mark up the ground very easily with this large tractor. Since I have AG tires I can tear up the ground very easy, but as long as a make wide gradual turns on dry ground I rarely tear up the ground.

I think if you are mowing a lawn (see above description) the L3130 may be too big a machine to keep the lawn in pristine condtion without some large floatation type tire.

Letterbuck,

I'm in NE CT and I mow with a B2910 and a Mid mount mower..
I have no problem with it... the 3030 and the 2910
are the same size machine.

Regards,
Chris

As others have said, it depends on how you define "lawn". I keep 6 acres mowed at about 4-6", with mowing every 2-3 weeks, using a bigger tractor with industrial tires, and have no problems. But a manicured, 2-3" cut lawn would probably not be possible even if I switched to turf tires.
