jd 2305
...I'd been debating removing my 200 cx fel on my new JD 2305 while mowing to prevent hitting trees etc but after seriously burying the tractor yesterday while taking a shortcut across the garden after a rain storm, decided to never think about removing it again.
...Using 2 pieces of 3/4 inch plywood (1 under the bucket to keep bucket from sinking and the other to put under front tires after lifting them out of the mud using the bucket) the little 2305's 4wd came to the rescue and pulled me to more solid ground which admiitedly was only 6 feet away . Although the rear tires were sitting pretty deep, the front tires grabbed on and did a great job and the 2305 had the power to keep pulling. Whew!

Good job! I've already had to use the fel to get me out of a hole, too... Stoopid mistake when cleaning out a ditch by my mailbox.

I decided to only take the bucket off and leave the rest of the FEL on to mow.. I thought it was going to be a pain in the butt to take the whole FEL off everytime..

I was in a hurry one night and realized after I got started mowing that I forgot to take the bucket off.. I can within a gnats @$$ of hitting the house a couple times, the propane tank, and i did run into a cedar tree.. I quickly decided to drop the bucket before I damaged something..

My yard is too small to run around with the bucket attached, and I like to get too close to things. I've also found that removing the fel is easy enough that I've never removed just the bucket. I'll give it a try this week and see what happens...

Without the bucket you can get really close to stuff.. The problem is in turns, you still have that FEL frame that sticks out past the front of the tractor. You have to be careful..

the other drawback of leaving the entire FEL on is you do have the extra weight on there..

I just take off the bucket too but I had pondered what the extra weight saving would be if I took off the whole thing. DOes anyone know what the weight is of the FEL minus bucket.

I drove around a little without the bucket and didn't care for it too much. You can certainly get closer to things, but it's hard to see where the QA plate is and must be real careful. I'll just keep removing the fel so I can drive the front end right into the fence and cut as close as possible.

The bucket probably probably weighs around 200-250#, the whole fel weighs in around 500.

There was a post on TBN a few years back (not sure if it was Deere or one of the others) that discussed the advantages of removing the FEL. One of those quoted a dealer's recommendation to remove the FEL (when not to be used) to reduce premature wear on the front bearings.

nails_n_glue's comment/question reminded me off that...

I'm one of those guys who leaves the FEL off most of the time (since most of the work is finish mowing).
BTW, last time I did mow, the bucket was off and loader installed. Hit my chain link fence with the QA bracket and did a pretty good job of tearing the fence up.
